5 Fearless College Football Betting Predictions for Big Ten in 2021

Prediction #1 – Ohio State loses two regular season Big 10 game

Most expect the Ohio State Buckeyes to run the table. But Ohio State must go through some growing pains this season. Not only must the Buckeyes replace quarterback Justin Fields, a Heisman Trophy Finalist, but they must also start a freshman center and sophomore right guard. The defense shows upperclassmen, but in a program like Ohio State, that’s not always a good thing because freshman and sophomores usually fill positions on defense at top programs.

More importantly, Big Ten opponents like Indiana, Minnesota, Penn State, Maryland and Nebraska will be better this season. The first game is versus a senior-laden Minnesota Golden Gophers squad on the road. The Buckeyes face Indiana, Nebraska, and rival Michigan on the road. Penn State is at home.

The 2021 Nittany Lions look strong. Don’t get us wrong. On paper, Ohio State is the best team in the Big Ten. But the Buckeyes are bound to lose at least two of those tough conference games.

Prediction #2 – Wisconsin loses two games overall

The Wisconsin Badgers don’t have an easy schedule, but in a 12-game season, Wisconsin must travel just four times. The four road opponents are at Illinois, at Purdue, at Rutgers, and at Minnesota. Wisconsin can win all four of those games. Still, the Badgers must play ranked teams like Penn State, Notre Dame, Iowa and always tough Michigan, Northwestern, and Nebraska.

The Badgers are bound to lose at least two games this season. If they lose a single Big Ten game, if one of the losses is to the Fighting Irish, Wisconsin should win the Big Ten West and stamp their ticket to the championship game.

Prediction #3 – Michigan finishes 8-1 and wins the Big Ten East

Although we list this our third Big Ten prediction, it may be our boldest. Since arriving at Michigan, blustery Jim Harbaugh has promised College Football Playoff bids and Ohio State beat downs. He hasn’t delivered on either. This could be the season it all comes together for Jim and the Wolverines. There are a few reasons to be bullish on the 2021 Michigan squad.

First, last season, the Maize and Blue were a debacle. Michigan lost 4-of-6 before canceling the rest of the season. Heading into 2021, Harbaugh’s fellas are flying under the radar. Second, Michigan is loaded with juniors and seniors on defense and on offense. Because things haven’t worked out the past few seasons, underclassmen haven’t bolted Ann Arbor to the NFL the way they do in other big time college football programs.

Harbaugh’s seniors and juniors are quality players, which brings us to the final reason to like Michigan. Jim has scheduled four out of conference games before the Big Ten slate. One of the games is versus Washington and all four are at home. The former Stanford coach will use those games to ready his team for the conference schedule. If Harbaugh succeeds, the Wolverines can upset Wisconsin, Indiana, Penn State, and Ohio State, the four preseason ranked Big Ten teams the Maize and Blue play this season.

Prediction #4 – Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin are ranked in the Top 10 at the end of the season

The Big Ten’s top three teams, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Michigan should all find themselves ranked in the Top 10 at the end of the season. All three will also have a shot to make it to the College Football Playoff. If you want to bet on which of the three actually does grab a CFP bid, you can’t go wrong backing any of the three. Michigan will offer astronomical odds.

So if you believe they do bounce back with a great season, consider the Wolverines a great underdog play. Wisconsin and Ohio State will offer worse odds, but both are decent plays. At around +5000, the Badgers are actually a good play to win the National Championship. We won’t make a prediction. What will write is that all three teams end up in the Top 10 at the end of the regular season.

Prediction #5 – Michigan beats Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship game

What’s bolder? Claiming Michigan wins their division or wins the Big 10 Championship? Some would argue beating Ohio State is a bolder prediction than beating Wisconsin in the title game.
