2021 Hero World Challenge Betting Odds, Preview and Picks
Twenty of the best golfers on the planet head to New Providence, Bahamas this week to battle for the right to call themselves Hero World Challenge Champion. Although not technically a PGA Tournament, the golf event tied to the TGR Foundation, a Tiger Woods Charity, can be one of the most competitive of the year. The winner often pockets at least $1,000,000. And because the field is limited to twenty, we should expect a competitive, trash talking, tournament. Which golfers among Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa have the best chances of winning the Hero World Challenge?
Perrenial favorite Rory McIlroy didn’t play in the 2019 Hero World challenge, the last time this tournament took place. But McIlroy has been in contact with Tiger since the accident that may have ended Woods’ career.
So he should play well this week because there’s a good chance Tiger has given Rory information regarding the Albany course. Not only that, but McIlroy won his lone tournament start this season, The CJ Cup.
Rory’s worth a look. Morikawa might be the one to back. The multiple major winner finished second behind McIlroy at The CJ Cup. The 24-year-old is playing lights out and this is the type of tournament, against other top competition, where he flourishes.
We can’t discount Justin Thomas. Thomas finished third at the World Wide Technology Championship. Then, he finished eighteenth at The CJ Cup. JT can also get it done. So handicap further before backing any of the three.
Will Bryson Dechambeau, Viktor Hovland, or Brooks Koepka play the better tournament?
Koepka dominated Bryson Dechambeau in The Match. Brooks told Bryson, “I just wanted to beat you.” With the more important victory in his pocket, there’s a chance Koepka bounces with a mediocre performance this week.
Brooks is a play against. So is Dechambeau. Bryson has proven he lets pressure get to him. When he’s on, he might be the best player in the world. When he gets into his own head, he blows it big time.
Viktor Hovland offers lower odds than both more high profile golfers, but he’s the pick among the three. Hovland finished forty-fourth at the Shriners, tied for eighteenth at The CJ Cup, and then won the Worldwide Technology Championship. He’s in good enough form to attract a few dollars.
Name two golfers not likely among the favorites who can take home the Hero World Challenge trophy?
Both Henrik Stenson and Patrick Reed are worth checking out. Neither is in good form. Stenson missed the cut at both the Worldwide Technology and the Houston Open. Patrick finished north of fiftieth place at both the Worldwide and the Houston.
But although neither is in good form, Stenson won the 2019 Hero World Challenge. Reed finished third, a stroke behind John Rahm and two stroks off Stenson. Who knows? Back on a course they have both dominated, Stenson and Reed could play with livelier sticks. If you’re looking to back a dog, consider going with Henrik Stenson or Patrick Reed.
