2021 F1 Abu Dhabi GP Recap

Max Verstappen parlayed a pole winning effort during qualifying with a victory in the race. Rival Lewis Hamilton finished second while Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz crossed the finish line in third.

In a surprise, AlphaTauri-Honda finished third and fourth. Yuki Tsunoda finished third. Pierre Gasly finished fourth.

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s top driver, finished tenth. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez finished fifteenth.

2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Picks

Top Pick to Win the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

We’re banking on Verstappen not racing to his usual level, which is why you won’t see his name in any of the top three slots. Mercedes won in Brazil but it wasn’t Lewis Hamilton who took the checkered flag. George Russell crossed the finish line first. Hamilton finished second. Lewis desperately wants a victory this season. He’s got one more race to get it done.

At last year’s event, Hamilton qualified second and finished the race behind Verstappen in second. If Lewis can win the pole during qualifying or at least start in the top five, he should have a chance.

Expect Hamilton to go all out on Sunday. Because it’s the last race, Lewis’ effort should be enough for him to land the first place on the podium.

Second Pick to Win the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc has won 3 races this season. But Charles’ last win came in early July at the Rolex Austrian Grand Prix. Since then, Leclerc hasn’t had much luck.

Like Hamilton, Leclerc wants to end the season on a winning note. A win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix would put a nice exclamation point onto a decent but not great season for Ferrari.

Third Pick to Win the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Mercedes had to be overjoyed at how second-string driver George Russell beat Red Bull and Ferrari and cross the finish line first in Sau Paolo.

Russell grabbed the first victory of his career. George has a legit shot to make it two in a row. Doing so would require Russell to against beat teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The odds difference between the two Mercedes drivers isn’t enough to jump off of Hamilton and go with Russell. However, if you like George to make even more of a name for himself before the season ends with a second straight win, go for it.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

While Verstappen dominated this season, Sergio Perez managed to drive okay, winning two races, the Monaco Grand Prix and the Singapore Air Singapore Grand Prix. Perez finished seventh in Brazil. He finished a bad fifteenth in this last year. So why is he the top dog? There’s a chance Verstappen does what he can to get his teammate another victory. Also, Red Bull would like their second driver to grab another win. At the odds, Sergio Perez is more than playable.
