Despite another double-digit winning campaign, Clemson failed to capture its seventh-straight ACC title no thanks to a myriad of injuries on offense that resulted in a mediocre campaign for starting quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei. Head coach Dabo Swinney should have a healthy roster brimming with talent to work with heading into the 2022 season, and few teams in the conference come close to having just as many reputable recruits. As such, Clemson remains the rightful consensus favorite to reclaim their spot atop the ACC.
Miami Hurricanes

There’s plenty of hype over in South Beach, as Miami’s very own Mario Cristobal returns to the Hurricanes program, for the first time in over two decades. The former Oregon head coach began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the ‘Canes before leading the Ducks to four glowing campaigns in the Pac-12. Fans of The U are hoping that things turn around instantly under Cristobal’s leadership coupled with what should be another stellar season from quarterback Tyler Van Dyke.

Florida State Seminoles

It’s been quite some time since the Seminoles had a winning record to close out the regular season; for four straight years, in fact. Last season, FSU had a late-season push and won five of its last eight contests before coming short of finishing with a .500 record. The ‘Noles have not been a force in the ACC title race since the Jimbo Fisher era, but a new set of wideout transfers may be enough for quarterback Jordan Travis to work with in hopes of turning Florida State into a winning sleeper candidate down the road.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Can the Demon Deacons repeat their magical 2021 season all over again? Wake Forest had its best campaign in ages by going 11-3 and nearly winning the conference title against Pittsburgh before taking home a victory at the Gator Bowl against Rutgers. Unfortunately, three-year starting QB Sam Hartman (over 9,000 passing yards, 71 passing TDs lifetime) will miss the first few games of the season due to an undisclosed medical condition. Nevertheless, Hartman should give the Deacons a boost immediately upon his return, which is why they still have decent sleeper odds to return to the ACC title game and win it all this time around.

Three seasons under Geoff Collins have all ended in mere three-win campaigns each year for the Yellow Jackets. To add insult to injury, Georgia Tech also lost its best player on offense in Jahmyr Gibbs to the big bully in Alabama. With an underwhelming transfer season of their own and a daunting schedule against the SEC’s best programs on tap, it’s safe to say that only die-hard Georgia Tech followers are daring enough to say that their team is ready to seize the ACC championship this season as a longshot candidate of pulling that huge feat.
