Clemson Stays Hot
After a miserable six-game skid, the Clemson Tigers went on a four-game winning streak to close out the regular season, which includes huge victories against teams with better records than them in Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
The Tigers’ four-game win streak is second only to North Carolina’s five-game run to close out the season. Clemson is the 10th seed in the ACC Tournament, setting up a cakewalk of a first-round matchup against the worst team in the group in NC State. The Hokies are waiting in the second round for the winner of this first-round clash, giving Clemson another favorable matchup to possibly send the team into the quarterfinals and beyond.
Duke Suffers Sudden Exit in the Tourney
Was the Duke Blue Devils’ 13-point defeat to North Carolina in the regular-season finale just a way of Mike Krzyzewski giving his boys a breather for the ACC and national tourneys ahead? Here’s hoping that that’s certainly the case for the top-seeded Blue Devils, who’ll face either Syracuse or Florida State in the quarterfinals (Duke has a two-round bye in the ACC Tournament).
The Orange and Seminoles were both badly beaten by Duke in the regular season. However, Wake Forest could be lying in wait for the Blue Devils come the semis and ready for a huge upset. Although Coach K and the Boys from Durham swept the Demon Deacons this regular season, their two head-to-head matchups were extremely close affairs, particularly their last meeting in mid-February wherein Duke barely escaped with a two-point win at home.
North Carolina Wins 2022 ACC Title
Duke may be getting all the praises over in the ACC, but it’s the North Carolina Tar Heels who’ve been the hottest team in the group. As mentioned earlier, UNC went on a five-game tear to close out the regular season, capped off with the massive victory over long-time rival Duke.
Junior forward Armando Bacot is arguably the best player in the conference with averages of 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game whilst shooting a highly-efficient 59.5 percent from the field this season. Bacot stuffed his stat sheet in the win over the Blue Devils as well, finishing with 23 points, seven boards, two steals, and two blocks.
