2022 Big 12 Tournament Shocking Predictions
With eight Big 12 titles since 2006, the Kansas Jayhawks are expected to dominate the conference tournament that they’ve had a lot of success in the recent past. On the other hand, one formidable foe stands in the way of Kansas’ hopes of reclaiming the Big 12 throne, as the Baylor Bears finished the regular season with the best record in the conference and are just as determined to prove that their national title-winning campaign last year was no fluke.

Texas Tech Recovers From Recent Loss
A disappointing 52-51 defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys has the No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders reeling heading into the Big 12 Tournament. But due to OSU’s ban from this season’s conference tourney, Texas Tech’s first-round matchup is instead against the Iowa State Cyclones.
The Red Raiders beat the Cyclones by 12 points in their last regular-season meeting with senior forward Bryson Williams dropping a team-high 16 points. Williams, who’s averaging 14 points per game with a solid 54.4 percent shooting clip from the field, will spearhead Texas Tech’s Big 12 Tournament run that’s expected to end no earlier than the semifinal round.
Kansas Slips in the Finals
Thanks in large part to the stellar play from senior guard and NBA-star-in-the-making Ochai Agbaji (19.8 PPG), the No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks have one of the most potent offenses in the entire tournament, hands down. Agbaji has scored 20 or more points in five of his last seven starts and will be key once more in a possible finals showdown against Baylor.
Unfortunately, the Jayhawks lost to the Bears by 10 points in their first and only regular-season meeting this past month. That loss was followed by another 10-point defeat, this time to lowly TCU, to stunt Kansas’ momentum at the tail-end of the regular season. That being said, Bill Self and the Boys from Lawrence will likely come up short of upending the Bears once more, but should be geared for another strong showing at the national tournament regardless.
Baylor Wins 2022 Big 12 Title
Until proven otherwise, the defending national champs are the team to beat in the Big 12. Not only are the No. 3 Baylor Bears the hottest team heading into the conference tournament with a five-game win streak, but they also have one of the stingiest defenses in the country, having allowed just an average of 63.4 points per game against the opposition.
The only team that Baylor would like to avoid in the tourney is Texas Tech, as the Red Raiders won their two regular-season meetings against the Bears by a combined 13-point margin. Then again, Texas Tech would have to go through the likes of Kansas or the No. 21 Texas Longhorns first, thus making a third and final bout versus Baylor in the finals that much more unlikely.
