2021 NASCAR Cook Out Southern 500 Recap

There’s a reason Denny Hamlin is the chalk in this year’s race. Last year, Hamlin beat Kyle Larson to the finish line first. Ross Chastain followed Larson in third. Martin Truex Jr. finished fourth and Kevin Harvick finished fifth. This year’s second choice, Chase Elliott finished thirty-first.

Top Choice to Win the 2022 Cook Out Southern 500

Joey Logano didn’t have a great last out race, but he didn’t have to. Joey had already qualified for the playoff before drivers sat in their cars at Daytona for the Coke Zero 400.

Heading into the first Round of 16 event, Logano looks primed for a deep run to the Cup. Joey not only ranks second on the standings behind Chase Elliott, but he often turns it on during the playoffs.

When it comes to Sunday’s event, Logano won the pole and the race the last time NASCAR was down in Darlington. Give Logano a big chance to win.

Second Top Choice to Win the 2022 Cook Out Southern 500

The odds difference between Denny Hamlin and Logano isn’t much, just +100, so if you like Denny, go for it. There are plenty of reasons to back Hamlin. First, he won the Cook Out Southern 500 last year. Second, Hamlin finished the regular season in sixth place.

Not only that, but Denny has emerged as Joe Gibbs best shot at winning the Cup in 2022. So we should expect Hamlin’s teammates to pitch in and help push Denny to the winner’s circle.

Third Top Choice to Win the 2022 Cook Out Southern 500

Tyler Reddick is in eighth place heading into the first playoff event. Tyler could be sitting on a massive race. He finished second in Daytona at the Coke Zero 400, which means he and his crew are on point.

In the first race at Darlington this season, Reddick drove great when finishing second to Logano. Tyler is another on this list who has a legit shot to win the first playoff event. Don’t look past Reddick to get it done on Sunday.

Top Underdog Choice to Win the 2022 Cook Out Southern 500

Kevin Harvick is the best underdog choice on the board. Last year, Harvick finished a decent ninth in this.

In the earlier race at Darlington, Harvick finished fourth behind Logano, Reddick, and Justin Haley. Kevin turned it on in the second half of the season, winning a couple of races. He can turn the switch on Sunday and rates a better shot to win than the +2000 odds indicate.
