2021 Emilia Romagna Recap

Max Verstappen, who won the driver’s championship, beat rival Lewis Hamilton by 22 seconds. Surprising Lando Norris finished third. Ferrari’s top two drivers, Leclerc and Sainz, finished fourth and fifth. Sixth place went to Daniel Ricciardo while seventh went to Pierre Gasly.

2022 Australian Grand Prix Recap

Ferrari continued their early season domination when Charles Leclerc crossed the finish line first. Sergio Perez made a surprise appearance on the podium. Red Bull’s other driver finished second. George Russell outpaced Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton and finish third. Hamilton crossed the finish line in fourth. Verstappen had to retire. So did Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz.

Will Max Verstappen turn the tables on Charles Leclerc?

Although Verstappen had to retire in Australia, he’s the second choice to win on Sunday. So far this season, Max Verstappen has won a race, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. But Red Bull’s top driver hasn’t brought his A game to every track. At the Bahrain GP, Max, yep, had to retire.

So that’s a couple of retires in the first three races. Leclerc won in Bahrain, won in Australia, and finished second behind Verstappen in Saudi Arabia. As long as Leclerc offers even money or higher, he’s the choice.

Is Carlos Sainz worth a look at +600?

Maybe. It depends on if you believe he overtakes teammate Leclerc. No doubt, Sainz and his crew can win the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. But Ferrari has put a lot of dollars behind Leclerc and his car. So Sainz could have the second best car at F1 and he still wouldn’t beat Leclerc because Charles has the best car and crew.

Is the Emilia Romagna the race where Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton kick into gear?

That’s not likely. There’s something going on at Mercedes. Maybe, the German constructor has tired of putting money behind Hamilton. In any case, the most dominant driver in the past few seasons has yet to win a race. Australia was strange in the sense that George Russell finished ahead of Hamilton. Verstappen should bounce back. So Mercedes and Lewis will have a tough time beating Red Bull and Max and both Ferrari drivers, Leclerc and Sainz.

Which underdogs have the best chances of winning the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix?

If you’re looking to back a dog, it doesn’t get better than Lando Norris. Russell will have a chance, but his +3300 odds make him an underlay because Verstappen, and the two Ferrari drivers have owned the top spot on the podium in the first three races. +8500 are fair odds on a driver that finished third in last year’s event. Give Lando a shot if you want to go for the home run swing.
