The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off in less than two weeks, with hosts Qatar opening the competition with a match against Ecuador. As the anticipation builds up, managers are required to announce their 26-man squads before the tournament begins. FIFA imposes a deadline of Monday, November 14, for all 32 teams to submit their final selections. However, teams can still make changes to the lineup for unavailable players.

Injury woes
In this World Cup where the tournament is scheduled between European leagues due to the head considerations in the host country during summer, there is a narrow one-week window between players released by clubs and it happens in the opening week. This is a significantly smaller gap than previous editions of the World Cup, which usually happens after a three-week break.
That said, FIFA altered the rules according to the situation. The governing body ruled that teams can make lineup changes for players unavailable due to COVID-19 or injury 24 hours before their first game.
Finalized teams
Two teams get the ball rolling. The first team was Japan, with head coach Hajime Moriyasu naming his 26-man squad on November 1, 2022. It features Premier League players Takehiro Tomiyasu and Karou Mitoma. The list includes several national-team pillars such as former Southampton defender Maya Yoshida and ex-Inter Milan defender Yuto Nagamoto. As +1,200 sleepers in the “Group of Death” and +15,000 finals longshots, it’s always exciting to see what Japan has in store.
Group E +5,500 underdogs Costa Rica is the next nation to announce its final squad. The team is captained by Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who works alongside former Premier League players Bryan Oviedo, Joel Campbell, and Bryan Ruiz. These players have experience playing on the international stage and appeared in the squad that reached the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals in Brazil, only losing to the Dutch team on penalties.
Tournament heavy hitters and +250 favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Brazil, are headlined by PSG star forward Neymar. He gets the support of Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, including Tottenham’s Richarlison. However, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino missed the cut and will miss the 22nd edition of the tournament with teammate Mohamed Salah.
