2021 F1 French GP Recap

At last year’s French Grand Prix, Max Verstappen dominated. Not only did Verstappen win the pole, but he also took the checkered flag. Lewis Hamilton started second and finished second. Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Garcia finished third while Hamilton’s 2021 teammate, Valtteri Bottas, crossed the line in fourth. Fifth place went to McClaren driver Lando Norris.

The two Ferrari drivers didn’t race well. Charles Leclerc finished sixteenth. Carlos Sainz finished better, but he didn’t crack the top 10 when crossing the line in eleventh.

2022 French Grand Prix Picks

Top Pick to Win the 2022 French Grand Prix

A couple of races ago, Max Verstappen finished seventh at the British Grand Prix. Most believed Max would bounce back in the last event, the Austrian Grand Prix, but he didn’t. Max couldn’t catch Leclerc and ended up second. The good news is that Verstappen finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

The Austrian GP happened on July 10. No doubt, Verstappen and his crew have worked on his vehicle in the past couple of weeks to ensure he’ll be ready to show his best. The chalk gets back on the winning track.

Second Pick to Win the 2022 French Grand Prix

So far this season, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have not raced well. But the constructor’s and driver’s fortunes could soon turn around. A few weeks back, Hamilton said he believed Mercedes was on the cusp of winning a race. Lewis drove great when finishing third at the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton drove even better in Austria when he finished second. On Sunday, we should expect another great performance. It might be good enough for Hamilton to drive right to the podium’s top spot.

Third Pick to Win the 2022 French Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc raced great at the Austrian Grand Prix, winning for the first time since taking the checkered flag at the Australian Grand Prix in April. No doubt, Leclerc and his crew are back to racing competitively no matter the course.

The problem with backing Charles to win, though, is that he has yet to put together back-to-back victories. The odds difference isn’t enough to make Leclerc the top choice instead of Verstappen. Placing Charles third feels right.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2022 French Grand Prix

Sainz won the British Grand Prix. He had to retire in Austria. So we don’t know what may have happened if he could have raced the entire way. One thing about Sainz and his crew is that they don’t often produce two bad races in a row. Carlos doesn’t always finish in the top two, but he does often grab a top four finish.

Once in a while, like what happened in England, Sainz and his crew win. Carlos Sainz has a much better shot of winning the French Grand Prix then the +2000 odds indicate.
