2022 Goodyear 400 NASCAR Odds, Preview, and Prediction

By Hank Blaine

When NASCAR drivers rev their engines, Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott will be looking to make it two straight victories. Elliott grabbed the checkered flags at the last event, the DuraMAX Drydene 400 at Dover International Speedway on May 1. Opening odds list Elliott as a co-third choice with Denny Hamlin. Will Chase win another race? Or is a different driver destined to cross the finish line first?

Top Choice to Win the 2022 Goodyear 400

For several reasons, Chase Elliott gets top billing. First, he won at Dover and when Chase and his crew get it going, they can put together back-to-back wins. Second, Elliott finished a respectable seventh at the 2021 Goodyear 400. Finally, the victory at Dover was Chase’s third straight top ten finish.

Elliott finished eight over the Bristol dirt and then he finished seventh at Talladega. Driver and crew are making all the right moves. Don’t be surprised if Chase Elliott grabs a second straight NASCAR trophy.

Second Top Choice to Win the 2022 Goodyear 400

It’s tough to look past the chalk. Kyle Larson finished second at last year’s Goodyear 400. On May 1 at Dover, Larson crossed the finish line sixth. At Talladega, Larson finished fourth. Kyle also finished fourth at Bristol over the dirt course. From eight starts, Larson has a race win, has won a pole, and has 6 total top ten finishes and 5 top five finishes.

Larson can definitely win at Darlington. But for all the fantastic finishes, Larson has won just a single race. So second place seems more probable than first.

Third Top Choice to Win the 2022 Goodyear 400

The 2021 Goodyear 400 winner must pick it up if he hopes to repeat. So far, Truex Jr. hasn’t had his usual NASCAR season. From the eight races, Martin Truex Jr. has 5 top ten finishes but just 2 top five finishes. He has yet to win a race. At Darlington, Martin finished twelfth.

In the race before at Talladega, Truex Jr. finished fifth. But at Bristol he finished twenty-first and he finished twenty-second at Martinsville. But although Truex Jr. has yet to win a race, he can challenge Elliott and Larson for the top spot. If you believe Martin is due, then backing him to win a race over a track he knows well makes sense.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2022 Goodyear 400

Harvick is often one of the most consistent drivers on the NASCAR Cup circuit. So far in 2022, though, Harvick hasn’t had the type of finishes were used to seeing from him. The ninth at Dover was Harvick’s fifth top ten finish. Harvick has finished in the top five just twice this season.

Last year at the Goodyear 400, Harvick crossed the finish line sixth, but he started the race in second. So if Harvick has the same starting position this year as he did last year, who knows? Maybe, he overtakes the chalk and crosses the finish line first.
