2022 March Madness Cinderella Picks Before Selection Sunday
In each of the last 13 seasons, one unlikely school that was an 11th-seed or lower has advanced all the way to the Sweet 16 stage of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament. That being said, the 2022 edition of The Big Dance is likely inviting another Cinderella team to the ball, but which team that’ll stage a couple of upsets in the tournament ahead?
NitroBetting is ready to dish out some timely assists to our bettors all throughout the 2022 March Madness season. This time, let’s take a look at several teams who are poised to have Cinderella runs in this year’s national tournament and are virtual locks as relatively low-seeded programs come Selection Sunday.

Saint Mary’s Gaels
It’s quite the cop out to call the No. 17 Saint Mary’s Gaels a Cinderella team in the 2022 March Madness tournament considering their position in the polls at the end of the season. Then again, the Gaels have proven to be a formidable rival to the top-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs over in the WCC being one of only three teams to have beaten the Zags this season.
Although Saint Mary’s failed to capture the WCC Tournament title in their latest showdown against Gonzaga, many are still high that the team will have its best run in the national tournament this season. The Gaels reached the Sweet 16 as a No. 10 seed back in 2010 and this year’s squad is arguably deeper than that former roster.
Loyola Chicago Ramblers
The Loyola Chicago Ramblers are going under the radar yet again, despite making the most out of their national tournament appearances. They’ve made it to The Big Dance on two occasions over the last four years and reached the Sweet 16 in each of those trips, including their amazing Final Four run in 2018.
Last season’s Sweet 16 campaign turned affable big man Cameron Krutwig into an overnight basketball celebrity. This time around, the likes of Aher Uguak, Lucas Williamson, and Braden Norris are about to vie for national attention. The three combined for 44 of the Ramblers’ 64 points in the win over the Drake Bulldogs for the MVC Tournament title.
Davidson Wildcats
Stephen Curry will forever be remembered as the all-time Davidson Wildcats great after sending his team to the Elite Eight back in 2008. Now the Wildcats are back at The Big Dance for the first time since 2018 thanks to another unique talent in junior guard Hyunjung Lee (16.5 PPG, 6.0 RPG), who is expected to become the first Korean player to be drafted into the NBA.
Lee isn’t the only offensive threat on this stellar Davidson unit, as fellow backcourt member Foster Loyer actually leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 16.8 points per game. With a couple of 16-point scorers, the Wildcats will be just as feisty in this year’s March Madness tournament as their similarly-named yet more credible programs like Arizona and Kentucky.
South Dakota State Jackrabbits
With a 21-game win streak entering the national tournament, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits are the hottest team heading into The Big Dance and even barely beating out the No. 19 Murray State Racers’ 20-game win streak for that smashing distinction.
The lack of true opposition against Quad 1 and Quad 2 opponents this season does indeed hurt the recently-crowned Summit League champions. Nevertheless, with the Jackrabbits averaging a whopping 86.7 points per game (second in the country only behind Gonzaga), they have a streaky offense to warrant a ton of consideration as a trendy sleeper pick to make a deep push in the national tournament ahead.
