— PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) April 5, 2022It’s hard to deny how all the press leading up to the 2022 Masters Tournament has been engulfed by the possible return of Tiger Woods. The living golf legend has teased a return to Augusta in the weeks leading up to the tournament, thus earning him decent odds to don the green jacket for the sixth time in his career.
Woods has not played in a PGA TOUR event since his last appearance at Augusta in 2020, wherein he had a lackluster outing finishing tied for 38th overall. And while Tiger’s status after going through physical and mental struggles is a looming issue, the fact that he overcame similar adversities during his memorable 2019 comeback victory at Augusta leaves plenty of hope that the greatest of all time has another magical Masters run within him.
Sung-jae Im
- 2022 Masters Tournament Odds: +6600
A string of three top 10s and five total top-20 finishes between November 2020 and January of this year has Sung-jae Im in relatively great shape entering his third-career PGA TOUR start at Augusta National.
The South Korean standout stunned the scene with his T2 finish at The Masters in 2020; his maiden start at the coveted major. Im was cut from the tournament in his return to the event last year, but the eighth-best golfer in the FedExCup standings to date is as reliable and consistent as they come in this week’s pool of sleeper candidates being overshadowed by Woods.
Marc Leishman
- 2022 Masters Tournament Odds: +7355
Australia’s very own Marc Leishman could not have picked a better time to make his 2021-22 PGA TOUR season debut than a return to Augusta. Since 2013, the Victoria native from Down Under has three top-10 finishes and one other T13 finish in The Masters, most recently tying for fifth place in last year’s run of the tournament.
Leishman’s last PGA TOUR victory was in January 2020 at Torrey Pines, wherein he beat out this week’s odds-on favorite Jon Rahm (+1,100) for his sixth-career win on the TOUR. A victory at a major tournament has eluded the 38-year-old veteran for so long, but his relatively stellar outputs at Augusta could put his major-less worries to rest this very week.
