Top Pick to Win the 2022 Memorial Tournament

The defending champion missed the cut at the PGA Championship, but before that performance, Cantlay had dominated at the Zurich Classic with partner Xander Schauffele. The duo shot a -29 to win the title.

In his last individual tournament performance before the PGA, Cantlay won the RBC Heritage. Last year, he beat Morikawa in a playoff after they both shot -13. Cantlay should turn it around over a course he loves. At the odds, he’s worth putting on top.

Second Top Pick to Win the 2022 Memorial Tournament

Xander Schauffele’s 2021 the Memorial Tournament started out well. He shot a 68 first round and appeared on his way to challenging for the title. But then things fell apart. Xander’s Round 2 was okay. The 70 didn’t kill his chances. The 74 in the third round did. After that, the best Schauffele could muster was a -4, well off the -13 Morikawa and Cantlay shot.

This year, we should expect a better performance over the Muirfield Village GC. Unlike his Zurich Classic partner, Schauffele played well at the PGA Championship, finishing a tied thirteenth. Xander can get it done at slightly better odds than Cantlay.

Third Top Pick to Win the 2022 Memorial Tournament

The second choice wasn’t great at the Memorial Tournament last year. He did shoot a -1 to finish tied for eighteenth. The finish is good enough to give McIlroy a shot to win this. The real key for Rory is if he can bounce in a good way off the eighth place finish at the PGA Championship.

He could bounce in a bad way because golfers rarely keep it going after three straight top ten finishes and that’s what Rory has done after the second at the Masters and the fifth at the Wells Fargo. If he’s got the sticks working, he can win this by three or more strokes. If not, he could finish out of the top 20.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2022 Memorial Tournament

Max Homa is playing the best golf of his career. He won the Wells Fargo Championship, beating Rory McIlroy in the process, finished tied thirteenth at the PGA Championship, and finished tied twenty-third at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

At last year’s the Memorial Tournament, he finished at -6. The finish wasn’t bad, but Homa could have won. He shot a 69 first round and second round before closing out the tournament with 72s on Saturday and Sunday. A 69 and 69 and he would have been right there. Give Max a big shot to win the 2022 the Memorial Tournament.
