A Grand Finale for Steph At Last
No longer will Stephen Curry’s already illustrious career have that shadow of not winning an NBA Finals MVP award. In Game 6, Curry was extremely determined to close out the series for the Warriors, as the now four-time NBA champion finished with 34 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists while making six of 11 shots from downtown.
Curry averaged over four three-pointers made this postseason and was clearly Golden State’s best player in the team’s entire playoff run. However, tons of credit should also go out to honorary splash brother Andrew Wiggins, as the former No. 1-overall pick won his first-ever NBA title after averaging 18.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in the playoffs. Had it not been for Curry’s explosions in Games 5 and 6, Wiggins would’ve likely taken home the Finals MVP hardware instead of Steph.
Wild Swings Kept Fans on Their Toes
Despite the 103-90 final score of Game 6 and the Warriors’ strong finish to deny the Celtics a comeback, the entire contest could really have gone either way. Boston began the game with an early 14-2 lead, but not before Golden State answered back with a 54-39 lead at halftime and leading by as much as 21 points in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Celtics emulated the Dubs’ penchant for exploding in that particular quarter by staging another 16-4 scoring run to end the quarter and cut the lead down to a manageable 10-point deficit. It wasn’t until the Warriors started shooting lights out to begin the fourth quarter that the writings on the wall started to spell out the return of the Warriors dynasty.
Time (Lord) for Some Love for the Celtics
We must give a hand to the feisty Boston Celtics for putting up a tremendous fight against a more experienced team in Golden State. Jaylen Brown gave it his all and finished with a team-high 34 points, while long-time NBA veteran big man Al Horford pitched in with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and four huge three-pointers in what could be his best and only chance to win his very first NBA championship ring.
Let’s not forget the stellar defensive performance from fan-favorite center Robert “Time Lord” Williams, who swatted away five Golden State shots and averaged over two blocks per game in the playoffs. And even though Boston’s top superstar in Jayson Tatum had a relatively lackluster performance in Game 6 (13 points, 6-of-18 shooting, five turnovers), the sky’s still the limit for this young Celtics core who’ll remain a force out in the Eastern Conference next season.
