By Carlos Chacon

It remains a two-team race over in the NFC South this 2021 NFL season, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints expected to battle it out for the division title. That’s not if the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons make surprise runs of their own, though, even with both teams lacking the depth and talent that the Bucs and Saints possess. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Odds to Win 2022 NFC South Division Title: -303
For as long as Tom Brady is commanding the ship in Tampa, the Buccaneers will remain strong contenders not just for the NFC South title, but for the Lombardi Trophy itself. The Bucs ’ roster has seen little to no changes from its core 2020 Super Bowl-winning squad, which is why they are the consensus favorites to repeat as NFC South champs. Barring a sharp decline from the seemingly ageless Brady, Tampa Bay is an easy team to pick to win its respective division this 2021 NFL season.

New Orleans Saints

  • Odds to Win 2022 NFC South Division Title: +350
With long-time head coach Sean Payton calling it a career on the sidelines, New Orleans’ streak of five straight winning seasons is suddenly at risk. Then again, the Saints still have a shut-down defense and a superstar multi-purpose running back in Alvin Kamara. The question, though, is whether or not Jameis Winston is still the right man under center with the former first-overall pick coming off a serious ACL tear in Week 8 last season and with Dennis Allen as his mentor and not Payton. As such, the Saints are still solid sleepers to recapture the NFC South crown; albeit with a limited ceiling given their issues at quarterback.

Carolina Panthers

  • Odds to Win 2022 NFC South Division Title: +1000
As messy as it looks in Charlotte, the Panthers do possess decent upside as sleepers to win the division in their own right. Baker Mayfield appears to be getting the starting QB job over fellow 2018 draft alum Sam Darnold, and Mayfield is in a similar position that he was in during his stint in Cleveland. The Panthers have a strong ground attack led by stud back Christian McCaffrey, who’ll also serve nicely as Mayfield’s security blanket in the short-passing game. McCaffrey’s comeback is pivotal to Carolina’s success this season, but so too is a significant improvement for the team’s iffy defense.

Atlanta Falcons

  • Odds to Win 2022 NFC South Division Title: +2500
It was a bitter pill to swallow, but the departure of former NFL MVP Matt Ryan had to be done for the Falcons to start a full rebuild. There are bright spots on Atlanta’s roster such as phenomenal tight end Kyle Pitts and multi-faceted offensive weapon Cordarrelle Patterson. However, the Falcons’ QB situation is as bad as it gets, with neither perennial backup Marcus Mariota nor third-round rookie Desmond Ridder inspiring much confidence. That being said, the Falcons’ longshot odds are justified with only die-hard fans of the Dirty Birds likely to be enticed by the massive return on their bets.
