However, not everyone was spared from the axe of elimination this past week. The defending Super Bowl champs have lost four straight games on the Niners’ home turf, which is a fascinating stat to consider in future survivor seasons. Note to self: avoid taking the Rams at San Fran and the Colts at Jacksonville in 2023.What’s concerning in terms of our survivor pools’ headcount, though, is that the high-rolling Nitro Pool might not even make it to the midway point of the season. There are only six survivors left in the Nitro Pool, which is exactly one-eighth of the population of 48 entries in that pool at the start of the season. Less than 20 percent of the next-highest-tiered MVP Pool’s survivors are still in the game as well, as the pool that began with 104 survivors is now whittled down to just 19 strong.Perhaps the pool that’s had it the worst, meanwhile, is our lowest-tiered buy-in pool, the Prospect Pool. Close to 30 participants failed to make the cut in Week 4, as the Prospect Pool joins the rest of the Nitro NFL Survivor Pool population with double-digit survivors, down from 120 survivors in Week 3. NFL Survivor Picks for Week 5
One of the better survivor matchups on Week 5 Sunday is the London Game between the Giants and the Packers. The Packers are currently pegged as (-8.0) virtual home favorites to beat the surprisingly 3-1 Giants, who’ve been fortunate of having a relatively easy schedule to start the season. Do note that the game kicks off at 9:30 AM Eastern Time, so lock in the Packers ahead of time and only if Green Bay hasn’t been picked yet. Week 5’s early-afternoon slate also has a couple of tasty matchups to consider. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers are out for blood after a loss in Week 3 and will host the Falcons as (-9.0) favorites to beat an Atlanta team missing its starting running back, Cordarrelle Patterson. Meanwhile, and perhaps the best time to lock in Buffalo as a survivor pick, the Bills welcome the Steelers in Orchard Park. Buffalo is a heavy (-14.0) favorite to beat a 1-3 Pittsburgh squad that will likely have rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett make his first NFL start against the Bills’ league-best defense. The Packers, Buccaneers, and Bills are all prized survivor picks this season, as all three of them will likely be favored to win most of their matchups all season long. However, waiting to lock in either of these three standouts might not be the best strategy. That being said, it might be worth considering pulling the trigger on one of these silver bullets already especially considering how brutal the survivor campaigns across the board have already been.
