Kurt Busch

  • 2022 Quaker State 400: +1900

Kurt is the more reliable of the Busch brothers when it comes to racing the Atlanta Motor Speedway. He finished third on the same track in March and saw the checkered flag first at this race a year ago. The biggest concern for him is his four DNFs. Without that, his numbers would have been up there with the favorites.

So far, Busch records four career wins in Atlanta, with nine top-five finishes and 17 top-ten finishes. In 2022, he appeared in 18 of 19 Cup Series events and bagged one victory. The 43-year-old driver for 23XI Racing scored three top-five and nine top-ten finishes, leading 18 laps in the process.

Ultimately, Busch needs to do more to top his 2021 season and worry about the competition ahead of him this time around.

Alex Bowman

  • 2022 Quaker State 400: +2500

We’ve seen Alex Bowman’s 2022 season go through several ups and downs. The 29-year-old finished outside the top ten in five of his last ten races. He picked up four consecutive finishes in 12th place or below. While his string of poor results affected his solid showing early into the season, Bowman did secure seven top-ten finishes in 11 races. More than that, he claimed a season-best fifth position in the standings.

The driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports is bound to snap the series of underwhelming results sooner or later. His driving style tends to stay behind the front of the pack. He stays out of trouble, which we recently witnessed at Atlanta and Talladega where he outperformed his average running position. Bowman records an average running position of 17th in Atlanta with a 10th place finishing position. Meanwhile, he maintains a running position average of 14th and a finishing position of ninth in Talladega. These numbers make him an intriguing sleeper pick for the 2022 Quaker State 400.

Michael McDowell

  • 2022 Quaker State 400: +5000

So far, Michael McDowell registered engaging numbers in 2022. He’s having the best season of his career so far, which features seven finishes within the top ten. The veteran driver ranks higher than Denny Hamlin and Willian Byron. McDowell’s 16.6 average finish tops his previous seasons in the sport. In addition, six of his top ten finishes in 2022 turned up in his last ten appearances.

Last year, McDowell earned his first career victory in the Daytona 500. He had a Cup record of 0-for-357 and left last year’s race a champion.

Like Bowman, the Front Row Motorsports driver steers away from big crashes. His average running position is not up there with the frontrunners, but he holds on long enough to make the top ten in the final laps. Despite crashing in the Spring race at Atlanta, he scored solid finishes at Daytona and Talladega. He continues to deliver the goods since finishing eighth in Talladega.
