Top Pick to Win the 2022 RBC Canadian Open

It’s hard to argue if you like Rory McIlroy more than Justin Thomas. At the 2019 RBC Canadian Open, McIlroy dominated with a -22. But this is 2022 and McIlroy’s form leaves much to be desired. Rory was one of the chalks to win the Memorial Tournament last week. He started out great, shooting a 70 and then a 69, but then imploded over the weekend.

It’s tough to back Rory because he’s had trouble on Saturday and Sunday in the last few tournaments, which is why JT is the pick. After winning the PGA Championship, Thomas bounced when missing the cut in his very next tournament, the Charles Schwab Challenge. JT knew he required a break. So the RBC Canadian Open is his first tournament since the Charles Schwab in late May. Don’t be surprised if Justin Thomas rolls to an easy win.

Second Top Pick to Win the 2022 RBC Canadian Open

Scottie Scheffler is having an excellent season. Even though he missed the cut at the PGA Championshiop, this year’s Masters winner finished second at the Charles Schwab. Like Thomas, Scheffler sat out the Memorial Tournament to prepare for this. Scheffler may not beat JT, but he should be right there. If the second choice and first choice are in the final group on Sunday, expect a playoff to determine the winner.

Third Top Pick to Win the 2022 RBC Canadian Open

Save for a missed cut at the RBC Heritage, Cameron Smith is hitting the ball great. He finished third at the Masters and twenty-first at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. In his last couple of tournaments played, Smith has finished thirteenth twice. First, he finished thirteenth at the PGA Championship. Then last week Smith finished thirteenth again, this time at the Memorial.

Smith is playing well enough to garner a look. If not for a 77 final round at the Memorial, he may have taken home the trophy. Not only that, but he offers better odds than McIlroy, Scheffler, and Thomas. So if you want to back a golfer with a shot at a slightly better price, Smith might be the golfer to back.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2022 RBC Canadian Open

Lowry has made the cut in eight straight. Not only that, but he finished third at the Masters and second in this tournament in 2019. The twenty-third place finish at the PGA Championship wasn’t bad. The thirty-second at the Memorial Tournament wasn’t horrible. Veteran golfers like Lowry start practicing shots over the weekend if they see they won’t break the top 20. So if Shane did that at the Memorial, he should play much better than his odds indicate. Lowry is an intriguing underdog to win the RBC Canadian Open trophy.
