2021 PGA RSM Classic Recap
Talor Gooch won the 2021 RSM Classic. Gooch isn’t back to defend his title because Talor decided to jump the PGA ship and move to LIV Golf. Gooch shot a -22 on his way to a win.
Mackenzie Hughes finished second at -19 and Sebastian Munoz finished third at -18. There was a four-way tie for fourth. Tyler McCumber, Cameron Smith, Tom Hoge, and Seamus Power all finished at -15.
Taylor Moore and Webb Simpson tied at -14. Denny McCarthy and Luke List finished a tied fifth at -13.
2022 RSM Classic Top Pick
Seamus Power’s -15 at last season’s RSM Classic sets him up well for success in this year’s rendition. But although shooting a -15 is fantastic, the real reason to like Seamus is because he’s in excellent form.
Power won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. He followed up that excellent performance with a tied third at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba. Seamus is picking his spots. The fact he decided to tee off at the RSM Classic should give his backers confidence.
2022 RSM Classic Second Pick
Save for a missed cut at the Fortinet Championship, Dahmen has finished no worse than thirty-seventh in any tournament played this season. The thirty-seventh happened at the Shriners Children’s Open in early October. Since then, Dahmen has finished sixteenth at the ZOZO Championship, a tied third with Power at the World Wide Technology, and a tied ninth last week at the Cadence Bank Houston Open. Dahmen’s -8 in this last season means he’s capable. If you believe, the odds are fair.
2022 RSM Classic Third Pick
Mackenzie Hughes offers +20 more than Dahmen. That may not be enough for you to decided to back Mackenzie over Joel. But before ditching Hughes, realize that he shot a -19 and finished second behind Gooch at the 2021 RSM Classic.
Hughes is playing well. He finished a tied first at the Sanderson Farms Championship, a tied twenty-third at the ZOZO and then a tied sixteenth at the Houston Open. Mackenzie could be sitting on a huge performance.
2022 RSM Classic Underdog Pick
Webb Simpson isn’t striking the ball as well as he usually does. In two tournaments, Webb has a missed cut at the Fortinet and a tied fifty-second at The CJ Cup.
But although Simpson isn’t playing great golf, he did shoot a -14 at the 2021 RSM Classic. Simpson hasn’t teed off since The CJ Cup. So we must assume he targeted this tournament. We must give Webb a better shot to win this than the odds indicate, making him a slight overlay.
