2021 F1 Singapore GP Recap

Because of the pandemic, Formula 1 canceled the Singapore Grand Prix in both 2020 and 2021. At the last Singapore GP, the 2019 event, Ferrari’s top driver at the time took the checkered flag. Sebastian Vettel grabbed first place at the 2019 F1 Singapore GP. What’s interesting is that Vettel’s teammate in 2019, Charles Leclerc, finished second.

Third place went to Max Verstappen. Mercedes finished fourth when Lewis Hamilton crossed the finish line. Hamilton teammate Valtteri Bottas crossed the line in fifth.

2022 Singapore Grand Prix Picks

Top Pick to Win the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix

It’s been three years since Charles Leclerc scored the second place finish at the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix. Since that time, mate Sebastian Vettel has moved to a different team and Leclerc has become Ferrari’s top driver.

Beating Max Verstappen, who is as hot as can be heading into this race, won’t be easy. But Leclerc managed a second place finish at the Italian Grand Prix. So at the odds, Charles is worth a look.

Second Pick to Win the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix

Max Verstappen is on fire. Max has won 5 straight Formula 1 events. No doubt, Verstappen can win a sixth straight. But although Max should win, it’s difficult to back him at the odds. The Red Bull driver didn’t finish first or second in 2019.

Yes, Verstappen and his crew are much better in 2022 than they were then. Still, laying -250 on a Red Bull driver in a race where Ferrari should secure 2 of the top 3 podium spots is asking a lot.

Third Pick to Win the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix

If you don’t want to back one of the two favorites, consider throwing money behind Carlos Sainz. Ferrari’s other driver finished third in the last race, the Italian GP. The real reason to like Sainz is because Ferrari won the last Singapore Grand Prix.

Vettel’s victory in 2019 broke a string of 3 straight wins by Mercedes. Mercedes doesn’t have it this season. So if you don’t want to back one of the favorites, putting money behind the second Ferrari driver makes sense.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton doesn’t appear motivated to win a race this year. Drivers like Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly aren’t worth backing, which means the top underdog this Sunday is Hamilton teammate George Russell.

Russell finished third behind Verstappen and Leclerc at the Italian Grand Prix, which gives him a shot in this. Mercedes is desperate for a win. If you believe it happens on Sunday, Russell is a solid play to be the Mercedes driver to get it done.
