2022 ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

The PGA TOUR makes a quick visit to Vegas not for some action in the casinos, but rather for the 40th running of the Shriners Children’s Open. This week’s selection of sleeper picks like their chances of winning the tournament as an underdog of sorts just as much as the biggest high-roller in Sin City who always throws caution to the wind.

Nitrobetting is here to give the best tips from the betting greens and fairways. This time, take a closer look at the three best sleeper candidates to keep tabs on at the 2022 Shriners Children’s Open, as well as their corresponding golf odds to win the latest installment of the annual tournament held in TPC Summerlin.

Sepp Straka

  • 2022 ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP Odds: +4,000

Thanks to a superb solo second at the Sanderson Farms Championship a couple of weeks ago, Austria’s Sepp Straka is one of the more attractive sleeper candidates out of this week’s field in Japan. The University of Georgia graduate out of Vienna has been on quite a tear dating back to the tail-end of the previous season, as Straka also bagged a solo second-place finish at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August shortly followed by a T7 finish at the season finale of the TOUR Championship.

Lucas Herbert

  • 2022 ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP Odds: +5,000

From Austria to Australia we go with Queensland’s own Lucas Herbert, who picked up his lone PGA TOUR victory at this time of the year last season at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Further boosting the 26-year-old Aussie’s stock as a solid sleeper pick this week is that he has some great momentum entering the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP as well, with a pair of T15 finishes since July (one being at the British Open) and a decent T20 showing in last week’s tournament in Jackson, Mississippi. Herbert is also currently ranked second on the TOUR in birdie average following his tremendous performance at the Shriners Children’s Open.

Kurt Kitayama

  • 2022 ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP Odds: +5,000

Japanese-American golfer Kurt Kitayama has yet to make his presence felt in the current season, having just been cut from last week’s tourney as his only start thus far. However, the 29-year-old UNLV product had a stellar full-season debut on the PGA TOUR with a couple of runner-up finishes and a solo third-place finish dating back to February. Kitayama is making his debut in Chiba, but is no stranger to success abroad, having won two tournaments in the European Tour and another couple of events in the Asian Tour.
