2022 Ally 400 Recap

Hendrick driver Chase Elliott won the race, followed by Kurt Busch in second. Ryan Blaney finished third.

Fourth place went to this Sunday’s favorite, Kyle Larson. Ross Chastain finished fifth, Gibbs driver Denny Hamlin finished sixth, and Austin Cindric crossed the line in seventh. Cristopher Bell, Joey Logano, and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top ten.

Top Choice to Win the 2023 Ally 400

The 2022 Ally 400 winner hasn’t had the best season. Elliott suffered an injury that led to missed races and then had to sit out a race due to a suspension.

Last Sunday, Chase finished fifth. It’s important to note the finish because the fifth came on the heels of a thirty-fourth place finish at Charlotte.

Elliott finished third at Darlington and fifth in the All-Star Race before the flub in Charlotte. If Elliott has returned to his best driving, the +850 will look like a gift.

Second Choice to Win the 2023 Ally 400

Denny had zero chance of a top ten finish in the last, the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Hamlin suffered an accident that sent him out to the sidelines.

Hamlin had won the pole at Sonoma. So getting into the accident and dropping to last had to have been disappointing. Earlier this season, Denny won at Kansas.

Then in the race before Sonoma, Hamlin finished second after starting third at World Wide Technology Raceway. The sixth place finish in this last year suggests Hamlin can get it done on Sunday.

Third Choice to Win the 2023 Ally 400

We must throw out William Byron’s performance at the Ally 400 in 2022. Byron and Alex Bowman, William’s Hendrick teammate, had terrible performances.

The third choice has finished in the top ten in 6-of-8 races. William also has 3 wins this season and 7 top five finishes.

No doubt, Byron will improve off the fourteenth place finish at Sonoma. We should expect at the very least a top five finish. If you like William better than the top two choices, he offers decent enough odds to warrant a play.

Top Underdog to Win the 2023 Ally 400

Logano’s third place finish in the last suggests he’s ready to break out with a win. Logano has a single victory this season, but the third place at Sonoma came on the heels of a third at World Wide Technology Raceway.

For sure, Logano can get it done. Joey finished ninth in the 2022 Ally 400. So we should expect an excellent performance.

The odds make Joey an overlay. Pull the trigger if you’re looking to back an underdog with a better chance than the odds imply.
