2023 Ally 400 Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

The NASCAR Cup Series takes over the Nashville Superspeedway in this weekend’s Ally 400. This event kicks off a summer sprint to the finish, with ten races to end the regular season, held at a plethora of track layouts. From short tracks, intermediates, road courses, and pack race superspeedways, expect the intensity to rise as drivers work for a playoff spot.

This weekend’s race showcases unique features. The 1.33-mile tri-oval is the only one of its kind. Reintroduced to the Cup Series just last year, the updated facility hosted action-packed racing and a dominant winner in Kyle Larson. However, the incalculable variables of the oval mean this can be anyone’s race. With that, Nitrobetting highlights this weekend’s top sleeper picks.

Tyler Reddick

  • 2023 Ally 400 Race Odds: +3,500

The 23XI racing driver is one of the few drivers you should keep a close eye on. Reddic drives the No. 45 Racing Toyota in his fourth full season in the Cup Series. The Man from Corning, California, bagged his first victory with the team at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year. Before moving to the Jordan and Hamlin-owned team, Reddick spent three seasons driving for Richard Childress Racing, securing his first career victory in the top-tier NASCAR series in July 2022 at Road America. He bagged two more wins in 2022 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and Texas Motor Speedway.

The 27-year-old currently ranks 13th in the driver rankings with 420 points in 16 races. So far, he already holds one win, seven top-ten finishes, and five top-five finishes. Although he suffered three DNFs this season, Reddick still holds an average start of 12.625 and an average finish of 16.5 with 168 laps led.

Alex Bowman

  • 2023 Ally 400 Race Odds: +3,795

The 30-year-old is in his sixth full season with Hendrick Motorsports in 2023. Alex Bowman stepped in for the departing Dale Earndhart Jr. in 2017 and sat behind the wheel of the No. 88 Chevrolet. Now, he drives the iconic No. 48 car following Jimmie Johnson’s retirement. The Arizona native owns seven NASCAR Cup Series victories, with the latest win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2022. His first-ever Cup Series win came at Chicagoland Speedway in 2019.

Bowman makes our sleeper picks list thanks to his boundless potential. His Crew Chief Blake Harris together with Hendrick Motorsports combined to open up multiple winning opportunities throughout his career. Right now, the 2022 Pennzoil 400 winner ranks 16th with 331 points. Alex also holds six top-ten finishes and three top-five finishes in 13 appearances. He holds an average start of 14.308 to an improving average finish of 12th.

Corey LaJoie

A relatively new face in the Cup Series joins Nitrobetting’s sleepers list. Corey LaJoie drives for Spire Motorsports full-time in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series and is in his third season driving the No. 7 Chevrolet. He was previously employed by Go Fas Racing and worked his way up to the top-rank division of NASCAR. LaJoie holds a pair of top-ten finishes in 2019 with the team and is a third-generation racer well-known in the motorsports space.

Corey is the lowest-ranking driver on this list. Nevertheless, his averages show an upward trend you cannot gloss over. He holds an average start of 25 and a 19.313 average finish in 16 races. The North Carolina native ranks 22nd in the standings with 291 points, featuring a top-ten and a top-five finish with seven laps led. Do not leave him out of consideration, as LaJoie recorded a few good finishes this season and could find his stride soon.
