2022 F1 Belgian GP Recap

Last year, even though he started fourteenth, Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen took the checkered flag. Verstappen finished ahead of teammate Perez.Carlos Sainz finished in third ahead of George Russell in fourth. Fifth place went to Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc finished sixth. Esteban Ocon crossed the line in seventh.

Top Pick to Win the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix

At this point, there’s no use going against Max. For sure, Verstappen will eventually lose an F1 race. It could be this Sunday.

But the odds make Max playable. If he stays below -400, we have to consider Verstappen a fair odds play. He’s dominating like he did last season. So in a way, this is like a money line soccer bet between the Brazilian men’s national team versus Slovakia. Sure, Slovakia could upset the Brazilians. But will it happen?

In other words, Verstappen is dominating so thoroughly that any odds above -400 makes him playable.

Second Pick to Win the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix

Perez is the only other driver who has won a race this Formula 1 Season. Sergio beat his teammate in two of the first three F1 races this year.

But then Perez began to fall backward while Verstappen surged. Still, if there’s any driver that can get to Max in this, it’s likely going to be Perez.

Red Bull takes pride in both their cars performing well. So Sergio is a viable play if you believe this Sunday is the day Verstappen’s winning streak ends.

Third Pick to Win the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix

At the 2022 F1 Belgian Grand Prix, Hamilton had to retire after suffering a collision. Lewis hopes he won’t have to retire in this race, but that doesn’t mean Mercedes gets their first win since 2021.

That’s correct. Mercedes didn’t win a single event last year. This year, it’s been more of the same, running up the track while Verstappen and Perez dominate.

Hamilton finished fourth at the Hungarian Grand Prix. So he’s driving well. But his car just isn’t what it used to be when Mercedes dominated. So at the odds, Hamilton is a slight underlay.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix

Why does Hamilton teammate George Russell offer +1000 higher odds than Lewis Hamilton? Russell should have as much of a shot as Hamilton.

In Hungary, Lando Norris finished second, Oscar Piastri fifth, and Russell finished seventh. There wasn’t a chasm between Russell in seventh and Hamilton in fourth. So if you’re swinging for a bigger payout, why not go with Russell, who may end up Mercedes’ top driver in 2024, over Hamilton?

The +2200 odds makes Russell a viable underdog play. Pull the trigger if you believe the race falls apart and George finds himself in the catbird seat, right behind the leader, heading into the final two laps.
