J.T. Poston scored a -21 to win the tournament. Emiliano Grillo and Christiaan Bezuidenhout each scored an -18 to tie for second.
Third place ended in a tie as well. Chris Gotterup and Scott Stalling both shot a -17. Denny McCarthy and Callum Tarren followed with a -16. Cam Davis and Maverick McNealy both shot a -15. Three players tied with -14 scores: Patrick Flavin, Michael Gligic, and Chesson Hadley.
2023 Genesis Scottish Open Top Pick
Although Russell Henley missed the cut at the PGA Championship, he’s played excellent golf surrounding that tournament. Russell is playing so well that he warrants top billing.
Henley finished fourth at the Masters in April. Then he finished nineteenth at the RBC Heritage. In the last four played, Henley has finished sixteenth at the Charles Schwab, sixteenth at The Memorial Tournament, fourteenth at the U.S. Open, and nineteenth at The Travelers.
Russell faces the weakest field he’s gone up against in a while. Henley is a great choice to score the victory on Sunday.
2023 Genesis Scottish Open Second Pick
Distance from the tee doesn’t mean as much at TPC Deere Run. The key to shooting a decent score at TPC Deere Run is to get onto the greens and to have a hot putter.
Denny McCarthy almost always has a hot putter. He may struggle to get onto the greens for birdie tries, but once he gets to the green, he does well.
In this case, McCarthy is also playing great golf. He finished twentieth at the Masters before a seventh at The Travelers. No doubt, Denny will be the chalk right before the first tee off on Thursday morning.
2023 Genesis Scottish Open Third Pick
Adam Hadwin missed the cut at The Memorial and finished fifty-ninth at the U.S. Open. However, in between those two performances, Hadwin played great golf.
Hadwin scored a a twelfth place finish at the RBC Canadian Open and then followed up that decent performance with a tied second at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in his last.
Adam is a touch below the top two choices. But if McCarthy and Henley struggle, Hadwin is a top contender.
2023 Genesis Scottish Open Underdog Pick
No way Sepp Straka should offer anything close to 50-to-1 odds. Straka finished seventh at thePGA Championship.
So although the top underdog choice hasn’t played great golf in the last three: a missed cut at the U.S. Open, thirty-eighth at the Travelers, and a sixty-fourth at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he could return to his best form in this.
The 50-to-1 odds make Sepp Straka this week’s best underdog choice. The field doesn’t boast any world beaters. So if Straka gets hot, he could pull off the upset.
