Beyoncé’s tribute to old-school house and techno is a technical masterpiece that marries classic dance music with today’s trends. Meanwhile, Adele’s latest effort has her sticking with her bread and butter with little variation to her style, and it’s this lack of creativity that could factor into 30’s shortcomings at winning AOTY.

The production for “Easy On Me” really puts Adele’s unparalleled voice front and center with fantastic mixing to make her stand out. Record of the Year goes out to the best-overall produced track and few come close to the pristine yet heartbreaking production that Adele’s team has with her latest chart-topper. Although, we wouldn’t be surprised either if Beyoncé steals this from her rival given how strangely familiar and utterly catchy her banger “Break My Soul” is.

This is yet another award for Adele to lose, as her heart-rending tale about the ebbs and flows of emotions following a divorce is as award-bait-worthy as they come. On the other hand, songwriting is also a strong suit for several of the nominees here.
Kendrick Lamar’s jazzed-up rant about black-on-black crime and social inequality is a strong candidate, but his passive-aggressive turn may turn some of the more traditional Grammy voters off. That being said, the Song of the Year award will likely go to another Grammy royalty in Taylor Swift, whose 10-minute version of “All Too Well” is a resounding epic that further emphasizes Swift’s stranglehold as the best American pop songwriter of her generation.
