2022 Grant Park 220 Recap

This is the first year NASCAR will run the Grant Park 220. The race will take place over a street course in Chicago, Illinois.

Grant Park is a local park that the route for the street course passes. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and McDonald’s are co-sponsors but neither lent their name to the race.

Ray Everham, Hendrick Motorsports consultant, believes cars will reach a top speed of 150 to 160 miles on the fastest part of the circuit on Sunday.

Top Choice to Win the 2023 Grant Park 220

Since coming back from injury, Elliott has driven well. He finished third at Darlington and then crossed the line fifth at the All-Star Race.

The thirty-fourth place finish at Charlotte was bad. But Elliott picked it up in the next at Sonoma Raceway, clocking a fifth place finish. In the last, Chase finished fourth.

The last two performances suggest Elliott is on the verge of a victory. Sonoma, especially, points to a possible win on Sunday. Sonoma is a road course, which should set Elliott up for a fantastic performance at the Grant Park 220.

Things haven’t been easy for Chase this season. But it could all start to turn positive should Elliott clock his first victory of the season this weekend.

Second Choice to Win the 2023 Grant Park 220

AJ Allmendinger thrives over these type of courses. Allmendinger is one of the top road course drivers at NASCAR, which is why AJ offers +1100 odds to win when he’d usually offer +2000 or higher odds to win.

Allmendinger is also in excellent form. He finished sixth at Sonoma, but then over a more traditional track, Allmendinger finished tenth in Nashville.

AJ is driving well enough to warrant a look to win the Grant Park 220. If you agree, grab the +1100 odds before they fall.

Third Choice to Win the 2023 Grant Park 220

A co-favorite with Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr., and Chase Elliott, Tyler Reddick hasn’t had much luck in recent events. Reddick finish thirty-fifth at Worldwide Technology Raceway.

Tyler followed up that awful finish with a thirty-third at Sonoma. Then at Nashville in the last, Reddick finished thirtieth.

But although Reddick’s finishes haven’t been great, Tyler has started well. Reddick started second at Sonoma and at Nashville. If you believe the Chicago Street Race is where Reddick breaks through, consider backing.

Top Underdog to Win the 2023 Grant Park 220

McDowell has finished well enough in the last couple of road races to be our top underdog play to win the Grant Park 220. The +2000 choice finished ninth at Worldwide Technology Raceway.

Then at Sonoma, McDowell finished seventh. The twenty-eighth place finish at Nashville wasn’t as bad as it looks because McDowell started thirty-third.

If the top underdog play can secure a better starting position on Sunday, he could be tough to beat. At 20-to-1 odds, Michael McDowell is worth a look to upset the favorites.
