2022 PGA Hero World Challenge Recap

Last year, Hovland shot a 69-70-64-69 on his way to an -18 and first place finish. It was the second year in a row Viktor had won the Hero World Challenge.

Scottie Scheffler finished second behind Hovland after shooting a -14. Cameron Young finished third, 2 strokes off Scheffler at -12.

Xander Schauffele finished in fourth at -11 and Justin Thomas finished fifth at -10. Collin Morikawa at -9, Tony Finau at -6, and Sungjae Im and Jon Rahm, both at -5, rounded out the first ten.

2023 Hero World Challenge Top Pick

There’s no reason to go against the chalk. Yes, the odds are light, and we should have a rule that prevents us from backing a golfer offering anything less than +1000, but the Hero World Challenge is different from any other PGA Tour event.

The Hero World Challenge is a charity event, which means all 125 golfers with a PGA Tour card won’t participate. A smaller field means we can back favorites offering low odds.

In this case, the chalk has dominated the last couple of Hero World tournaments. Viktor Hovland didn’t just beat Scheffler lats year, he won by 4 strokes. Give Viktor the nod to make it three straight.

2023 Hero World Challenge Second Pick

Scottie Scheffler has finished second in the last two Hero World Challenge tournaments. The +4150 second choice could for sure turn the tables on Hovland.

However, this will be Scottie’s first tournament this season. Scheffler finished sixth at the TOUR Championship. Before the sixth place finish, Scottie scored a second at the BMW Championship.

Often, Scheffler uses this tournament to get his sticks right. So we shouldn’t expect a full on assault to take down Hovland.

2023 Hero World Challenge Third Pick

Home starts his season at the Fortinet Championship. Max Homa shot a decent 70-66-70-69 on his way to a final -13 score.

Homa finishes seventh for his efforts. Max finished seventeenth at last year’s Hero World Challenge. But unlike 2022, this year, Homa didn’t play at the CJ Cup, or the Shriners. So Max should be fresh when he steps onto the course this week.

2023 Hero World Challenge Underdog Pick

Will Zalatoris had a terrible 2022-2023 season. Because of an injury, Will had to withdraw from The Masters in April. He didn’t take a club out of the bag after The Masters.

Will says he’s ready to have a bounce back season. The Hero World Challenge is a good tournament to start the bounce back.

Who knows? If Zalatoris is on, and Hovland, Scheffler, and the rest aren’t, maybe Will scores the upset victory at the more than kind 33-to-1 odds.
