2023 MLB MVP Odds & Predictions
The 2023 Major League Baseball Season starts on March 30, which means right now is the perfect time to handicap prop futures. In this blog, we take a look at MLB MVP props. See below for a top choice, a second choice, and a top underdog choice in each league.
Odds to Win the 2023 MLB MVP Award
- Shohei Ohtani (Angels) +200
- Mookie Betts (Dodgers) +900
- Ronald Acuna Jr. (Braves) +950
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays) +1200
- Kyle Tucker (Astros) +2500
- Xander Bogaerts (Padres) +3000
American League
2023 MLB MVP AL Top Choice
The 2021 MVP made a great case to win the award in 2022. The only reason Shohei Ohtani didn’t is because Aaron Judge broke the single season home run record.
Ohtani went 15-9 with a 2.33 ERA. He struck out 219 batters. At the plate, Shohei also shined, batting .273 with 34 home runs and 95 RBIs. The man is the Natural, which is why he’s the top pick to win the 2023 AL MVP.
2023 MLB MVP AL Second Choice
It’s difficult seeing Judge do in 2023 what he did in 2022, which is why Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a decent second choice.
Vladimir had 32 home runs, 97 RBIs, and batted .274. If he can boost those stats in all categories, and if the great Ohtani takes a backward step, Guerrero Jr. will be right there to score the trophy.
2023 MLB MVP AL Underground Choice
On one hand, Kyle Tucker’s stats were brilliant. The Stros right fielder knocked in 107 runs and hit 30 dingers. But on the other hand, Tucker left much to be desired.
Kyle finished batting .257. That’s not good enough to win an MVP. However, if Tucker can get the batting average up, hit a few more home runs, and bat in a few more runs, who knows? The man has the talent. So at the odds, he’s worth a look if you want to bet on a dog.
National League
2023 MLB MVP NL Top Choice
Mookie Betts underperformed last season. He was okay: .269 batting average, 35 home runs, and 82 RBIs. Everyone, including Mookie, knows he can do better.
2023 will be Mookie’s turn to shine. Betts is good enough to bat over 300, hit 35 home runs again, and get 100 RBIs or more.
2023 MLB MVP NL Second Choice
When it comes to the most valuable player, the National League is much deeper than the American League. We had to dig deep to come up with Ronald Acuna Jr.
The Braves right fielder has attracted a lot of press due to his supposed lack of hustle. Still, Acuna Jr. has the talent to be one of the best in baseball. It must all come together, and the odds make him a slight underlay, but the ATL will have a great season and Ronald should benefit.
2023 MLB MVP NL Underground Choice
Xander Bogaerts was great in his final season in Boston. He batted .307, hit 15 homer runs, and knocked in 73 ribbies.
Everyone knows Petco isn’t a hitters park. But Bogaerts isn’t your traditional hitter. He’s a thinking mans hitter, meaning he’s good enough to decide where to hit the ball.
The league change could help Xander. Most of the pitchers have no idea how good he really is. So Bogaerts, one of the top players in any league in the past decade, could sneak up on pitching staffs.
