2023 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Favorites

By Jeff Stinger

The 75th season of the world’s most popular stock car series in the United States also marks the 52nd season for the modern-era Cup Series. With new car updates, a grid of determined drivers, and a fresh start to the campaign, we expect unexpected moments to come our way. Having a level of uncertainty makes both fans and bettors excited.

There appears to be a common denominator at the top of the table, but it’s also worth looking at the personalities who can deliver positive results from nowhere. That said, Nitrobetting names the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Championship favorites.

Kyle Larson

  • 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Odds: +650

Larson’s title defense was a disappointment compared to his dominant run in 2021. After winning ten races to win his first career Cup Series title, Larson scored three wins and finished in an underwhelming seventh place in the standings. This is not the performance we expected from the California-born driver. Despite being the best qualifier in the Cup Series with an average starting position of eighth, he typically lost six spots per race.

The 30-year-old took a step back last season. Three wins versus ten wins and 13 top fives in contrast to his 20 in 2021 resulted in a significant downfall in the season-long standings. Nevertheless, it’s no surprise that he makes his way to the favorites once again. The 2021 champ was involved in a final-lap crash at Daytona but finished with 19 points.

Denny Hamlin

  • 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Odds: +800

The bittersweet story of Denny Hamlin continues. But, can the 42-year-old veteran finally deliver this time? Hamlin is the most accomplished Cup Series driver to not score a title. He finished fifth in 2022 and only joined the top ten on 16 occasions. Although he scored ten top-five finishes and had a win snatched from him through a post-race inspection failure over the summer, he remains determined to get that Cup Series title as one of the favorites.

Hamlin secured 20 points in the previous Daytona 500. He is a three-time Daytona winner and packs an impressive punch under pressure. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver led six laps in this year’s Daytona 500 before getting wrecked on the closing stages of the race but managed to score 20 points when he crossed the checkered flag.

Ryan Blaney

  • 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Odds: +1000

Blaney makes his way to the favorites list despite a winless 2022 run. Only two drivers recorded more top-fives than Blaney last season and he led more laps than the aforementioned favorites. He has the tools and the talent to take this one away from the frontrunners, which is why we believe he will not finish this calendar without a win.

The recent Daytona 500 favorite disappointed many as he barely cracked the top 15 in last week’s race. This might end up biting him back in the long run, as the event will be worth a lot in the grand scheme of things. He crashed and went laps down before recovering to finish eighth and set his tempo for a regular-season championship run. If Blaney can stretch his lead out in the upcoming race, it will bring him back to a solid pace that can shake things up early into the season.
