2023 NBA Championship Top Pick
The Milwaukee Bucks might have returned to the NBA Finals last season if Khris Middleton hadn’t suffered an injury. Giannis Antetokounmpo remains one of the top three best players in the NBA, but Giannis couldn’t do it all by himself.
With Middleton on the bench, the Bucks struggled against the Boston Celtics in the conference semifinals. Boston beat Milwaukee 4 games to 3. This season, the Bucks have their sights set on dethroning the Cs as the Eastern Conference’s top team.
Milwaukee players Brooke Lopez and Bobby Portis remain Bucks. Those two will support a nucleus that includes Jrue Holiday, Middleton and Giannis.
2023 NBA Championship Second Pick
The Phoenix Suns made two moves during the offseason that could end up with the Suns lifting the NBA Finals trophy. The most important was resigning center DeAndre Ayton.
Ayton is part of a Big Three that includes Devin Booker and point guard Chris Paul. This season, CP3 will start making the way for Cameron Payne to take over full time, which is a good thing. The more playing time Payne gets, the better he will develop into a full time point guard.
The second big move was owner Robert Sarver taking a step back and deciding to sell the team. Without the Sarver situation hanging over their heads, the Suns should relax more and go back to the dominant style that almost led to a title in 2021.
2023 NBA Championship Third Pick
The Miami Heat were a game away from beating the Boston Celtics and facing the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Jimmy Butler is a season older, but he’ll be just as good as he was last season.
Not only that, but this is the season where Tyler Herro steps it up. Miami handed Herro a massive contract. Coach Erik Spoelstra intends on starting Herro at shooting guard.
Small forward Caleb Martin, who played for Charlotte the past couple of seasons, will improve the front line big time. Watch out for the Heat.
2023 NBA Championship Underdog Pick
31-to-1 odds makes the Minnesota Ti,mberwolves an overlay. Minnesota’s front line is ridiculous, which alone makes them at worse a +2400 shot to win rings.
Rudy Gobert will control the glass, which means the 3-point shooting contest champ, Karl-Anthony Towns can roam outside the line, which means teams must adjust, which means Gobert not only controls the glass but also dunks all day.
Almost as important? Shooting guard Anthony Edwards is about to torch the rest of the NBA. Edwards can play small forward, shooting guard, or point guard. He’s one of the most skilled players in the league.
If Edwards takes the next step to all everything player, and there’s a great chance he does, forget it. The Timberwolves will challenge for the Western Conference title.
