First round matchups
Eastern Conference
The Bucks just claimed the top position in the East standings after the Celtics headlined the conference for some time now. Their double-digit win streak propelled the 2021 NBA Champions to the top of the table and with a possible matchup against a Play-In winner.
Boston dropped the ball in the past few weeks and picked up erratic results. They gave way to the Milwaukee Bucks and now hold the second seed in the Eastern Conference standings. Should their position persist, expect a matchup between last year’s NBA finalists and one of the Play-In winners.
Meanwhile, the Sixers maintain solid form with strong home wins and an improving road record. Their current 41-22 record is good enough to claim third seed this season. If everything goes according to plan for Doc Rivers and his players, we expect to see them taking on the sixth-seed team, which is currently the Brooklyn Nets.
Another breakout team this season features 2016 NBA Champions Cleveland Cavaliers. Although the franchise hasn’t seen much success since Donovan Mitchell’s arrival on the team and a fitting core team introduced new light. They are slated to take on the fifth-seed team, the New York Knicks, if both sides maintain their position till April 15, 2023.
Western Conference
The Nuggets look well ahead of the Grizzlies in the Western Conference standings. Nikola Jokic and the rest of Michael Malone’s crew look primed to take the top spot in the conference. Should they maintain the top seed by the end of the regular season, we should see them line up against one of the Play-In winners.
Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings are breathing down the necks of the second-seed Memphis Grizzlies. But as of now, the Taylor Jenkins-led roster is set to face one of the Play-In winners should they maintain their position.
The Sacramento Kings are the surprise team of the season for sure. A strong run in the second half propelled the franchise to third seed and anticipated a matchup versus the seventh seed team, Dallas Mavericks.
Last but not least, the fourth seed team, the Phoenix Suns, are set to take on defending champions Golden State Warriors should the Western Conference standings remain unchanged. Both teams are no more than a few wins from each other and should produce interesting results for basketball fans and bettors.
