By Jeff Stinger

From the first-ever street race at Chicago to the high-speed oval in Atlanta, the NASCAR Cup Series regular season continues this weekend with the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Drivers make the switch from a traditional race track to the familiar feeling of a superspeedway.

This weekend’s event will be the track’s second feature in the calendar and one that fans and bettors look forward to. Of course, the favorites are there fighting for the top podium finish, but it’s always worth noting that underdogs have a shot of applying pressure on the frontrunners. That said, Nitrobetting lists down the 2023 Quaker State 400 sleeper picks below.

Erik Jones

  • 2023 Quaker State 400 Race Odds: +10,000

Jones holds 30th place in the 2023 driver rankings with 241 points in 18 races. The Michigan man is in his seventh full season in the Cup Series and his third year working alongside the newly-merged Petty GMS Motorsports. His portfolio features a victory in the 2022 Southern 500, which marks the team’s first victory as well. Before that, Jones won the Busch Clash at Daytona International Speedway in the 2020 season opener. He also won the 2019 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.

His foundations also include a first Cup win he fought with Martin Truex Jr. at Daytona in July 2018. Jones claimed consecutive Sunoco Rookie of the Year Honors in all three NASCAR National divisions. The 27-year-old earned three top-ten finishes with an average start of 22.556 and an improving average finish of 20.944.

Chase Briscoe

  • 2023 Quaker State 400 Odds: +10,000

Chase Briscoe is a Cup Series race winner coming into the 2022 season after picking up a win at Phoenix Raceway. He made history in the process as the 200th Cup Series winner. The Indiana-born driver also covered ground and made it to the Round of 8 in his second year in the Cup Series. Briscoe showcased his talent behind the wheel of the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford in the 2021 series to Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors, taking over for Clint Bowyer who retired from the sport after the 2020 campaign.

The 28-year-old holds 31st place in the 2023 driver rankings. He amassed 207 points in 18 races, including four appearances in the top ten and three top-five appearances. Briscoe records an average start of 19.111 and an average finish of 20.444 and looks to improve his figures for an eventual playoff appearance. Don’t discount Chase just yet, as he is a tested driver and features a winning pedigree.

Noah Gragson

  • 2023 Quaker State 400 Race Odds: +10,000

Cup Series rookie steps on the big stage after four seasons in the Xfinity Series. Noah Gragson will race alongside GMS Motorsports in the No. 42 Chevrolet. He previously drove the No. 9 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports, where he finished second in points last season. His eighth victory of the 2022 calendar came at Homestead-Miami Speedway. In the process, the Nevada-born driver matched Sam Ard’s four-straight race win from 1983.

The 24-year-old works with crew Chief Luke Lambert and ranks 32nd in the driver standings. He collected 166 points in 17 races. Although he recorded five DNFs along the way, he documents an average start of 26.235 and an average finish of 28.118. Leading up to his first Cup Series season, Gragson also won a first career Xfinity Series win in 2020 at Daytona International Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway. A year after, he recorded victories at Darlington Raceway, Richmond Raceway, and Martinsville Speedway. He is no stranger to winning, and his unassuming status makes him a viable sleeper pick for this weekend’s race.
