Why will Europe beat the United States?

Although the United States continues to be the favorite, the action has gone towards Europe. Oddsmakers set an opening line that pegged the Europeans +163 underdogs. Team USA was a -163 chalk.

Now, a couple of days before the first matchup, the Americans are down to -129 favoritism and the Europeans are at +106. The money continues to fly to the Euros.

Not only that, but two of the top five golfers on the planet throw down for the Europeans. John Rahm and Rory McIlroy are two of the best on the planet.

Also, the Europeans haven’t lost a Ryder Cup on their side of the Atlantic since 1993.

Why will the United States beat Europe?

On paper, the U.S. rolls. Combined, Team USA has won 15 PGA Major Tournaments and 58 PGA events overall. Scottie Scheffler is the 2022 PGA Player of the Year.

Scottie ranks number one in the world, ahead of Rory in second and Rahm in third. Brian Harman won The Open this year. Wyndham Clark took the U.S. Open and Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship.

John Rahm won the Masters, but that was way back in April. In addition to the U.S. players’ resumes, solid golfers like Max Homa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, and Collin Morikawa can light it up at any moment.

2023 Ryder Cup Expert Betting Prediction

Don’t expect another 19-9 destruction like what we witnessed at Whistling Straits. This year’s Ryder Cup should be an excellent tournament.

Both teams boast solid talent. The Americans have the better overall players, which is the reason even though the Euros have home course advantage, the United States remains the favorite.

No doubt, Team USA can win this. However, backing the U.S. goes against strong history. More importantly, the man who won the FedEx Cup this year, the annual PGA Playoff that includes the FedEx St. Jude, BMW Championship, and the TOUR Championship, was a European.

Viktor Hovland didn’t just win the FedEx Cup. He dominated, shooting a -17 to take the BMW and then shooting a ridiculous -27 to score the TOUR Championship victory.

Right now, Hovland is the best player in the world. So if we think about it, the Europeans boast 3 of the top 4 best golfers on the planet: Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy, and John Rahm. In addition, we can't disregard history. The Europeans are almost unbeatable unless the Ryder Cup happens over a U.S. course.

Finally, although Harman and Clark won majors, neither is consistent. Harman has 3 PGA Tour victories since turning pro in 2012. Clark has 2 PGA wins; both happened this year.

For sure, the Americans can win the 2023 Ryder Cup. But based on history, where the tournament takes place, and the fact the Euros go into this with 3 of the top 5 players in the world, backing the dog is the play.
