2022 PGA Sanderson Farms Championship Recap

At last year’s Sanderson Farms Championship, McKenzie Hughes and Seep Straka both finished at -17. Hughes beat Straka in a playoff to win first prize. Garrick Higgo finished behind Straka in third place.

Dean Burmester finished fourth, followed by four players in fifth at -13: Emiliano Grillo, Keegan Bradley, Mark Hubbard, and Nick Hardy. Four players also finished tied at -12 and in ninth place: Michael NeSmith, Greyson Sigg, Taylor Montgomery, and Thomas Detry.

2023 Sanderson Farms Championship Top Pick

Going chalky in a golf tournament is never ideal, but Ludvig Aberg should have this field over a barrel. The man played in 9 stateside PGA Tournaments last season. He made the cut in 8-of-9.

Not only that, but Aberg’s DP World Tournament form was electric. He won the Omega European Masters, finished fourth at the D+D Real Czech Masters, and finished tenth at the BMW PGA Championship.

Again, accepting low odds on any player to win a golf tournament usually isn’t wise. But Aberg could have stayed in Europe. The fact he made the trip to play in the Sanderson is a big deal. Also, Ludvig turned pro this year. So there’s no ceiling.

2023 Sanderson Farms Championship Second Pick

When Emiliano Grillo is on, there are few golfers on the PGA Tour that can play better. Emiliano made the FedEx Cup Playoff last season.

Not only that, but he played in all three events, the St. Jude, the BMW, and the TOUR Championship. Although the best he could do was finish a tied twenty-ninth, Grillo was in great company.

Just making the playoffs is massive. Last year, Grillo shot a -13, which was just 4 strokes off Hughes and Straka. Emiliano can get it done.

2023 Sanderson Farms Championship Third Pick

Garrick Higgo missed the cut at the Fortinet Championship in September, which is the main reason he’s at 35-to-1 odds. Higgo, though, may have used the Fortinet to warm up for this.

Garrick shot a -16, a stroke off Straka and Hughes, at this in 2022. If Higgo brings the same level of play to the Country Club of Jackson this week, Garrick can get it done. Consider for the win money.

2023 Sanderson Farms Championship Underdog Pick

Mackenzie Hughes won this tournament last year. That alone makes him an overlay at 45-to-1 odds. Not only that, but although he finished a tied fifty-second at last month’s Fortinet Championship, Hughes made the cut. So if he improves this week, Mackenzie can get it done.

Again, the odds make the defending champ an overlay. So if you believe, consider for sure.
