2022 PGA Shriners Children’s Open Recap
Last year, Tom Kim shot a -24 to beat Matt NeSmith and Patrick Cantlay by 3 strokes. Tom Hoge and S.H. Kim, all shot a -20 to finish a tied fourth.
Sungjae Im finished seventh at -19. Si Woo Kim and Jason Day finished a tied eighth after sooting -18. The tenth place finishers were Maverick McNealy and Adam Hadwin.
2023 Shriners Children’s Open Top Pick
The 23-year-old from Sweden played great in the Sanderson Farms Championship, last week’s PGA Tournament. Ludvig Aberg shot a 67-69-66-68 to finish with a final score of -18.
Ludvig ended up in a 5-way tie with fellow Swede Henrik Norlander, Scott Stallings, Ben Griffin, and Luke List. Aberg, Norlander, Stallings, and Griffin lost to List in the playoff.
The top choice is hitting the ball great. Before the excellent Sanderson Farms finish, Aberg had scored a fourteenth place finish at the Wyndham Championship in August. Last month, Aberg finished tenth at the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tournaments tour.
2023 Shriners Children’s Open Second Pick
The defending champ steps to the tee on Thursday playing excellent golf. Tom Kim finished eighteenth at the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tournaments tour. Before that, Kim had finished twentieth at the TOUR Championship, which means Tom not only qualified for the Fedex Cup, but he played well in all three tournaments. In the FedEx St. Jude, Kim finished twenty-fourth.
Then at the BMW Championship, Kim finished tenth. Tom is gearing up for another Shiners Children’s Open title run. It makes sense to take the defending champion chalk seriously.
2023 Shriners Children’s Open Third Pick
This is Si Woo Kim’s first tournament of the season, which might explain why he’s offering 25-to-1 odds. Although Kim won a single tournament last season, the Sony Open in Hawaii, he played well enough in the Fedex Cup Playoffs to warrant a look to win this.
Kim finished sixteenth at the St. Jude, thirty-first at the BMW Championship, and twentieth at the TOUR Championship to close out the 2022-2023 PGA Season. If you believe Kim comes out firing like he did last year, Si Woo finished eighth at the 2022 Shriners Children’s Open, then he’s worth a look to lift the trophy.
2023 Shriners Children’s Open Underdog Pick
In this last year, Tom Hoge shot a -20 to finish a tied fourth. That by itself makes Hoge playable at the 35-to-1 odds.
At the BMW Championship on the DP World Tournaments tour, Hoge shot a -11 to finish a tied fourteenth. What to notice about Tom’s performance is that he shot 68s in both in the third and fourth rounds.
Hoge heads into this playing his best golf. So he deserves a long look to win the trophy. The 35- to-1 odds make Tom Hoge a slight overlay play.
