2023 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard NASCAR Odds & Prediction

By Hank Blaine

NASCAR drivers head to the Brickyard in Indianapolis on Sunday for the 2023 Verizon 200. The race takes place over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, which is why drivers like Shane Van Gisbergen and A.J. Allmendinger offer lower odds than expected. The favorites heading into the race are Martin Truex Jr. and 2022 winner Tyler Reddick.

2022 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard Recap

Reddick gained the checkered flag followed by Austin Cindric in second. Third place went to Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland finished fourth.

23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace finished fifth. Joey Logano crossed the line in sixth ahead of A.J. Allmendinger in seventh. Michael McDowell, Cole Custer, and Chris Buescher finished eighth, ninth, and tenth.

Top Choice to Win the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard

Kyle Busch finished eleventh in this last year. There’s a good chance he improves off the eleventh place finish.

We’re confident in saying that because Kyle is in terrific form. Sure, the top choice finished last at Michigan but that was due to an accident.

Before the Michigan debacle, Busch had finished third at Richmond. Kyle also scored back-to-back fifth place finishes at the Chicago Street Race and in Atlanta. The Chicago Street Race finish is particularly telling because Kyle should face similar conditions on Sunday.

At the odds, Busch is a better play than former Joe Gibbs teammate Martin Truex Jr. and last year’s Verizon 200 winner, Tyler Reddick.

Second Choice to Win the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard

The defending champ didn’t have a great race at Michigan. Reddick finished thirtieth after starting fifteenth.

But in the race before, at Richmond Raceway, Reddick won the pole. Although Tyler finished sixteenth, winning the pole was a nice accomplishment.

Then before Richmond, Reddick crossed the line second at Pocono. So the overall form is there.

If the odds were higher, we’d consider placing ahead of Busch. So if you don’t mind the +550 second choice odds, consider.

Third Choice to Win the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard

Elliott got into an accident at Michigan. So Chase finished ahead of a single driver, Kyle Busch.

If we throw out the Michigan race, Chase shows decent enough form to consider backing to win the Verizon 200. Elliott had finished no worse than thirteenth in seven straight races before the Michigan debacle.

For sure, Chase can get it done on Sunday. He finished sixteenth in this last season, but may have been over the top. This season, Elliott has yet to peak.

Top Underdog to Win the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard

Chris Buescher, who won in Michigan, is also a live longshot. So if you don’t like Logano but want to back an underdog, consider rolling the dice on Buescher.

We landed on Joey because he had a decent 2022 Verizon 200. Logano finished sixth, which means he knows how to navigate the track. Also, Joey finished second in New Hampshire and fourth at Richmond.

So he has a couple of decent finishes in two of the last four races. At the odds, Joey Logano is an overlay to win the Verizon 200.
