2022 PGA World Wide Technology Championship Recap

Russell Henley dominated this tournament last year when it happened at Mayakoba over the El Camaleon course. Henley shot a -23 to beat Brian Harman by 4 strokes. Scottie Scheffler finished third after shooting an -18.

Joel Dahmen, Troy Merritt, Seamus Power, and Will Gordon, all tied Scheffler at -18. Two players tied at -17, David Lingmerth and Sam Ryder.

Five players tied at -15: Davie Lipsky, Taylor Montgomery, Maverick McNealy, Patrick Kizzire, and FedEx Cup Playoff champ Viktor Hovland.

2023 World Wide Technology Championship Top Pick

Cameron Young finished last season playing decent golf. Cameron shot a -6 at the St. Jude FedEx Championship. Then in the next FedEx Cup Playoff event, the BMW Championship, Young shot another -6.

Cameron has yet to tee off this season, but the lack of a tournament shouldn’t preclude Young from showing his best. This field isn’t as deep as last year’s World Wide Technology. So if Young can get the jump on Aberg and Theegala in the first two rounds, he could coast to victory.

2023 World Wide Technology Championship Second Pick

Ludvig Aberg is a threat to lift the trophy in every PGA Touranment. The 24-year-old Texas Tech star finished thirteenth at the Shriners Children’s Open.

Before the thirteenth place finish at the Shriners, Aberg had finished a tied second at the Sanderson Farms Championship. The Swede is striking the ball well. The only problem is that although he’s playing great, he has yet to win. So at +900 odds, the best we can do is pick Aberg second.

2023 World Wide Technology Championship Third Pick

Emiliano Grillo is on the upswing. Emiliano had missed the cut in two straight tournaments, the Sanderson Farms and the Shriners Children Open.

But in his last, the ZOZO Championship, Grillo got it together enough to finish tenth. Emiliano shot 65-71-68-71 at the ZOZO.

Grillo didn’t play great over the Mayakoba golf course at the 2022 PGA World Wide Technology Championship. However, this year’s tournament happens over a different course. So Emiliano should improve off last year’s forty-second place finish.

2023 World Wide Technology Championship Underdog Pick

Maverick McNealy offers overlay odds to win the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship. The 60- to-1 choice shot a 65-68-69-66 over the course at Mayakoba at the 2022 event.

Any improvement could put McNealy in the PGA’s winner circle. Ah, but there’s a reason Maverick is at +6000. This is McNealy’s first tournament since missing the cut at the RBC Canadian Open this past June.

It’s going to require an amazing effort for Maverick to make it into the top ten. Still, if that effort arrives, maybe, Maverick not only plays into the top ten but also wins outright. At 60-to-1 odds, McNealy is worth a look if you like backing huge dogs.
