2023 Würth 400 Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

Last week’s GEICO 500 saw the trio of Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, and Chris Buescher stand on top of the podium. For the final race weekend of April, NASCAR heads to Dover, Delaware, for 2023’s eleventh Cup Series race. Drivers lineup at Dover Motor Speedway and prepare for the one-mine track and its 24-degree turns and nine-degree banks on the straightaways. With 400 miles of racing across 400 laps, bettors and motorsport fans eagerly anticipate another action-packed weekend.

Of course, the “Monster Mile” isn’t complete without Nitrobetting looking into the rest of the grid. Do not gloss over the following sleepers and how they can shake things up at Würth 400.

Austin Cindric

  • 2023 Würth 400 Race Odds: +10,000

Austin Cindric will sit behind the wheel of Team Penske’s Ford in the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series Race. The 24-year-old sports No. 2 on his car and headlines Nitrobetting’s sleepers pick list. Cindric made the jump to the top-tier racing league in 2022. He won the Daytona 500 In his debut season with the organization, which doubles as his first-ever premier series win. So far this season, he ranks 18th and holds an average start of 11.2 and an average finish of 20.5. If Cindric can remain consistent throughout qualifying and Sunday’s race, expect him to shake things up front.

Furthermore, Austin’s portfolio includes a 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship title. He claimed five wins in 2021 for a total of 13 career Xfinity wins. We’ve also seen Cindric make his way to the Championship 4 and earned a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory in 2017 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Michael McDowell

  • 2023 Würth 400 Race Odds: +12,500

Front Row Motorsports has a sleeper pick in Michael McDowell. He drives the No. 34 Ford in this year’s NASCAR Cup Series and his sixth season with the constructor. Since joining the team, McDowell scored a Cup Series win in the 2021 season-opener Daytona 500. His best result before the major victory was a fourth-place finish at Daytona International Speedway in 2017. It’s going to be a challenging weekend for McDowell but we firmly believe he can deliver positive results with a proper car in his hands.

McDowell ranks 19th this season with a top-ten finish in ten races. He also led six laps with an average start of 16.2 and an 18.8 average finish. Like Cindric, McDowell suffers from inconsistent performances. If the 2016 Road America Xfinity Series winner tightens up and keeps out of trouble for the 400-mile race on Sunday.

Erik Jones

  • 2023 Würth 400 Race Odds: +15,000

The Michigan native is in his seventh NASCAR Cup Series season. This is his third season driving the No. 43 car for the newly-merged Petty GMS Motorsports team. Jones yielded positive results at last year’s Southern 500 and the team’s first victory. In 2020, he also won the Busch Clash at Daytona International Speedway and the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway a year before that.

Erik Jones also took the spotlight in his first Cup win in a duel versus Martin Truex Jr. at Daytona in July 2018. Jones earned massive respect from the big dogs and earned consecutive Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in all three NASCAR national divisions, including the 2017 Cup Series, 2016 Xfinity Series, and 2015 Craftsman Truck Series.
