2024 French Open Men’s Tournament Preview

Backing Alcaraz makes some sense. Since the Mutua Madrid Open back in late April and early May, Carlos has sat on the bench in preparation for the French Open. He’s a devastatingly good clay player. He’s so good that he’s likely to pick up fellow Spanish superstar legend Rafael Nadal’s King of Clay title once Rafa retires.

But Alcaraz offers low odds. So does Novak Djokovic, who finally may be slowing down after the most remarkable run in tennis history.

If we look past both Djoker and Alcaraz, the obvious favorite play to win it all is Jannik Sinner. The 2024 Australian Open champ is 28-2 in singles matches this season. Sure, he bowed out of the quarterfinals at the Mutua Madrid Open in his last via walkover. No worries. Sinner will be ready once the playing starts at Roland-Garros.

Andrey Rublev rates as the top underdog play. Rublev didn’t have a great Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Andrey won the Mutua Madrid Open, though, beating four seeded players, including Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz, on his way to the title. Give Rublev a big shot to outplay the odds.

2024 French Open Women’s Tournament Preview

Swiatek and Sabalenka play on May 18 in the final at the Internazionale BNL d’Italia. For sure, check out that match. It should be epic with the two best players throwing down for the championship.

As good as both Swiatek and Sabalenka are, it’s tough to back either as the top play to win at Roland-Garros. The French Open comes up quickly after the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, itself a physically, emotionally, and mentally draining tournament.

So on May 18, Swiatek and Sabalenka could knock each other out of French Open contention due to their brutally tough rivalry. Instead of backing either of the favorites, or Coco Gauff, who can win the title at Roland-Garros, we’re going with +900 Elena Rybakina.

The 24-year-old last played in a semifinal match versus Sabalenka at the Mutua Madrid Open. Rybakina lost after 3 sets and a tiebreaker, proving she can hang with the number two player in the world. Overall, Rybakina shows 3 singles titles victories and a 30-5 match record in 2024.

The best underdog play is Ons Jabeur. Jabeur hasn’t had a great 2024, going just 6-8 in singles matches. However, Jabeur did make it to the quarterfinals at the Mutua Madrid Open before falling to Madison Keys in a 3-set contest. Jabeur won the first set 6-0 and then lost the second set 5-7.

If Ons has her game together, she can beat players like Sabalenka, Rybakina, and Swiatek. Consider putting a few bucks behind Jabeur if you want to back an underdog to win the 2024 French Open Women Singles title.
