2024 Olympic Games Betting Picks

By Hank Blaine

On July 26, the Olympic Games in Paris start. For close to a month, sports betting fans can wager on amazing events that they otherwise couldn’t. But not all Olympic are worth betting. For example, the favorites in weightlifting look close to impossible to beat. With that in mind, check out six bets that sports handicappers can make right now that are sure to turn a profit.

A Look at the Top 2024 Olympic Games Betting Picks

Spain to Win Men’s Soccer

The rules for Olympic Men’s Soccer state that teams have 3 exceptions to the 23 or under rule. Spain can use their exceptions on top class players like Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres because three of Euro Cup Champion Spain’s best: Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and Nico Williams, are 21 or under.

The French don’t have as many talented players under-23 that the Spanish do. So although Spain is the second choice after France, El Rojo appears poised for another Olympic gold medal.

Canada to Win Men’s Basketball

Beating the United States won’t be easy. But the Canadians boast three guards in Dillon Brooks, Jamal Murray, and the exceptional Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that gives Canada a backcourt edge against every team in the tournament.

If Canadian bigs R.J. Barrett, Kelly Olynyk, and Dwight Powell can hold their own, the Canadians will be in an advantageous position to upset the U.S. and every other team at the 2024 Olympics.

Ludvig Aberg to Win Men’s Golf

Odds on Xander Schauffele dropped from +900 to +600 after Xander won The Open Championship on Sunday. Schauffele is a co-second choice behind Rory McIlroy and top odds choice Scottie Scheffler.

Aberg is flying under the radar. Although Ludvig has yet to win a tournament this year, he does rank fourth in the world. For sure, Aberg must improve off the missed cut at The Open Championship. However, improvement should happen and Aberg got a chance to check out the course early due to his flub in Scotland.

Wout van Aert to Win Cycling Road Race

Tadej Pogacar dominated the Tour de France, beating rival Jonas Vingegaard by 6 minutes and 17 seconds. Pogacar plans on cycling in the Olympic Road Race and is a favorite. But Tadej must be tired after the Tour victory.

Wout van Aert finished fifty-second at the Tour de France. Wout has a real shot at the Olympic road race because it’s a single event at 273 kilometers, 169.63 miles, with 2,800 ascending meters. That’s much different than Grand Tour events, which take place over the span of 21 days. So in essence, van Aert must only win a single “stage” at a Grand Tour event to take home gold.

Lilia Vu to Win Women’s Golf

The odds on Lilia Vu to take home the women’s golf gold medal make her a slight overlay. Vu hasn’t finished worse than 26 in her last four LPGA tournaments.

She scored a nice twenty-first at the Ford Championship, won the Meijer LPGA Classic, finished second at the Women’s PGA Championship, and finished 22nd at the Amundi Evian Championship. If her sticks are working, Vu gets it done.

USA Total Gold Medals Under 40

41 medals is a ridiculous amount of medals, which is why the payout odds are -120 no matter if we go over or under. Team USA should win a lot of gold, but there are some events where they have zero shot.

Britain and Germany will take home every equestrian event. Most weightlifting gold medals will go to Chinese athletes. If the Americans aren’t perfect in track and field, win the gold in Olympic basketball, and score the gold medals in boxing, they should fall short, making under the logical play.
