Scottie Scheffler, the world’s top ranked golfer, is a massive +450 favorite followed by Rory McIlroy at +750. Xande Schauffele is the third choice at +1100. Rory McIlroy has had his ups and downs this season, including an almost divorce with his spouse. But in the past couple of tournaments, Rory has played fantastic golf. He almost pulled off a U.S. Open victory when finishing second. If not for a 72-second round, Rory may have won the trophy.

Then in the follow-up tournament, the Genesis Scottish Open, McIlroy shot a fantastic -14 to finish a tied fourth. McIlroy heads to Royal Troon playing his best golf of the year. Take the world’s number 2 ranked golfer seriously to get it done.

Xander Scheffler hasn’t played since the Travelers, which is why he didn’t make the list this week. Schauffele, the next highest ranked American, ends up second on our The Open Championship picks list.

Xander followed up the PGA Championship victory, his first major title, with an eighth at the Memorial, a seventh at the U.S. Open, a thirteenth at the Travelers, and a fifteenth at the Genesis Scottish Open, the annual tune up for The Open Championship. Schauffele tried out some things at the Genesis, which will benefit him big time. Royal Troon is notoriously tough on American players. If you believe Schauffele overtakes McIlroy on Sunday, we can’t argue. Also, the odds are great.

2024 Open Championship Third Pick

The world’s fourth ranked golfer continues to play excellent golf. Ludvig Aberg notched a fourth place finish at the Genesis Scottish Open. So he’ll be ready to tame Royal Troon this week.

But as well as Ludvig has played this season, he has yet to lift a trophy. The closest he came was a second at the Masters. What’s worrisome is how Aberg bombed in the fourth round at the Genesis Scottish Open, shooting a 73 after rounds of 64, 64, and 65. Did the pressure get to him? Maybe it did, which is why we project Ludvig to finish third.

2024 Open Championship Underdog Pick

Since winning the LIV Golf Singapore in early May, things haven’t gone well for one of the world’s top golfers. Brooks Koepka finished ninth in Houston, forty-second in Nashville, and twenty-seventh in Andalucia.

But although Brooks Koepka isn’t playing well, he’s going to Scotland to give it a try. That’s good enough for us because Brooks Koepka likes nothing more than to beat his former PGA peers in a major tournament. At +3500 odds, it makes sense to throw a few bucks behind Brooks to show up in Scotland with his best swing.
