The 2025 season kicked off with some bangers! NFL Week 1 provided some very interesting storylines that you should keep an eye out for in the upcoming weeks. The top NFL betting favorites started off their season on the right foot, while a former champion couldn’t get their first win. What can we expect from these teams heading into next week? Bills Catapult to Super Bowl LX Favoritism
In one of the most amazing comebacks in NFL History, the Buffalo Bills managed to overcome a 15-point deficit in the final four minutes of their NFL Week 1 game versus the Baltimore Ravens to win 41-40.
This one had so many storylines, as the man who made the winning kick was 41-year-old Matt Prater, who had just signed a deal with the Bills on the following Sunday. Josh Allen, as always, was spectacular.
The loss won’t derail Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ hopes for a Lombardi. Baltimore takes on Cleveland at home in Week 2. That should be a victory. As for the Bills, the win sent Allen and the team to the top of the Super Bowl LX food chain. Beware backing the Bills in Week 2 because a bounce could happen against a scrappy Jets squad on the road.
Favorites Dominated NFL Week 1 Sunday
The faves were all the rage in NFL Week 1 on Sunday, going a spectacular 8-4. The public dominated pros looking for value on dogs.
But before jumping all over favorites in Week 2, let’s pause and take a long, meditative breath. Some faves won games against small lines, super tight.
Brock Purdy led the 49ers to a late win and cover versus the Seahawks as a -1 road favorite. Without Purdy’s heroics, who knows what would have happened? The Cardinals covered in a 20-13 win over the Saints after the line dropped from -8 earlier in the week to -6 before the game.
The Rams and Packers, now 2-0 ATS and SU after dominating the Commanders on Thursday night, and the Jags looked great. Indy, yes, the Indianapolis Colts, when they destroyed Tua and the Fins as a 1-point home favorite, which brings me to a real story about NFL Week 1: teams that were supposed to cover but didn’t.
8-4 suggests that favorites dominated, but many of the games could have gone either way on Sunday. Don’t let the ATS record in NFL Week 1 affect how you handicap NFL Week 2.
Are the Bells Tolling for the Chiefs’ Dynasty?
Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs were spectacular in close games. KC won almost every close game in which they played. So far in 2025, the script has reversed.
Sure, it’s only NFL Week 1, but KC looked flat in a 27-21 loss to the AFC West rival L.A. Chargers in Brazil. So is the Chiefs’ dynasty done?
Maybe. KC has thrived on staying in games with a decent defense and letting Patrick Mahomes do his thing in the fourth quarter. But Mahomes can only throw the ball to receivers who step onto the field.
Rashee Rice is suspended for the first six weeks. Xavier Worth is listed as questionable in Week 2, and the soon-to-be-married Travis Kelce looks content, which isn’t always a good thing for a football player.
Almost as important? The O-line may not have improved much. 5.8 yards per carry and 98 rushing yards look decent until we realize he scrambled for 57 of the 98 and averaged 9.5 yards per carry.
The Chiefs face the Eagles on Sunday. It’s going to be difficult to beat an Eagles squad that’s ready to get into gear unless Jalen Carter spits on an opposing player before kick-off again. Things could go from okay to bad in a hurry for Mahomes and his crew.
