2025 NFL Week 5 Highlights

By Hank Blaine

We are getting closer to midseason and a lot has happened, determining the fate of some of the teams. Let’s dive in into NFL Week 5’s top highlights and what to keep an eye out for.

2025 NFL Week 5 Top Highlights

The Wheels Are Off in Baltimore

It’s official. The season is over for the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens fell to 1-4 after the Houston Texans dominated John Harbaugh’s squad 44-10.

Yes, Cooper Rush had to play for the injured Lamar Jackson. But that doesn’t translate to 44 points. The Ravens were at home, and they played a team with a stagnant offense. C.J. Stroud went off for 244 yards and 4 TDs. Baltimore gave up from the opening kickoff, it looked like. Without Lamar, the Ravens have nobody to step it up in the leadership department, and the defense is horrendous. Ravens are cooked.

The Broncos Hand the Eagles Their First Loss of the Season

The Denver Broncos marched into Philadelphia as a +4 dog and came away with a moneyline victory. We should have had our eyes on this one because the line opened at Eagles -5.5 and fell a full 1.5 points, meaning casual bettors and pros were all over Denver.

The Broncos have one of the best defenses in the league, and Bo Nix is finally playing Sean Payton football. He didn’t throw a pick in this game. In Denver’s last three games, Nix has a 4-to-1 TD to INT ratio.

The real key for the Denver offense is J.K. Dobbins, who has been sensational. The Broncos are at 3-2, like the Chargers, in the AFC West. The difference? Denver has 117 points for and 84 against, while the Bolts have 98 points for and 98 against, which suggests Denver might be the better overall squad.

The Pats Take it to the Bills in NFL Sunday Night Football

Don’t give up on the Patriots just yet. Drake Maye led the Pats into Orchard Park and pulled off a stunning 23-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

There was no Josh Allen bailout in this game. Allen has provided fireworks for the Bills since Week 1. JA’s performances have shrouded a serious issue in Buffalo: a defense that struggles to stop either the pass or the run.

On Sunday night, the story was about Maye to Stefon Diggs, the former Bills player. Diggs caught 10 passes for 146 yards. The Pats’ defense played bend but don’t break to perfection, holding the Bills to field goals and grabbing the extra field goal to secure the win.

Buffalo will bounce back. For New England, the win is a sign the Pats can hang with anyone.

Lawrence and Jags Send Mahomes and Chiefs to 2-3

Monday showcased one of this season’s top quarterback duels. Both Trevor Lawrence for the Jaguars and Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs were incredible in the Jags’ 31-28 victory.

Lawrence rushed for 2 TDs. Mahomes had a rushing TD. Neither defense came up big in this one. The Jaguars lifted their record to 4-1 while the Chiefs have fallen to 2-3.

This weekend’s matchup for the Lions is a make-or-break game for KC. Falling to 2-4, should Jared Goff and the Lions prevail, would almost be a death knell for the Chiefs’ season. Even if Mahomes and KC step it up, it’s not a guaranteed victory. The Lions are on fire, and Goff is playing at an MVP level with 1,187 yards and 12 touchdowns to 2 interceptions after five games. Be wary of playing the desperation angle on the Chiefs.
