2025 Open Championship Betting Preview

Scottie Scheffler heads into The Open Championship a solid +450 favorite. Scheffler has struggled with his putter lately, but when Scottie is on, there’s no better golfer in the world. The top-ranked player could step it up.

McIlroy was having a fine Genesis Open, the warmup tournament to The Open Championship, and had a chance to win the Genesis trophy at the time of this writing. Whether Rory takes home the hardware or not at the Genesis, he’ll be tough playing over a course that should give him an advantage.

The word is out on Rahm and his ability to link courses. JR is poised to play well this week. So does Xander Schauffele, the defending champ. Schauffele has yet to show the same form he did in 2024, but it could be a matter of time before he does.

2025 Open Championship Top Pick

Jon Rahm was fantastic in the first three PGA major tournaments, finishing fourteenth at Augusta, eighth at the PGA Championship, and seventh at the U.S. Open. Rahm’s ability to play well over links courses is undeniable.

JR has finished in the top seven in three of the last four Open Championships. His ability to put together winning performances on links-style courses could propel him to the top.

Rory McIlroy was playing great at the Genesis Scottish Open at the time of this writing. Not only that, but Rory is a Northern Ireland native, meaning he should have a home course advantage in this.

Rory won The Players Championship and the Masters earlier this year. Adding an Open Championship title to his fantastic 2025 is a real possibility.

2025 Open Championship Third Pick

The defending champion is under the radar. Xander Schauffele has yet to win a title in 2025. Ah, but check out those finishes in the major tournaments, and this could be Schauffele’s week.

The current titleholder scored an eighth at the Masters, a twenty-eighth at the PGA Championship, and a twelfth at the U.S. Open. Schauffele is another to put on your shortlist to get it done.

The odds make Viktor Hovland the best overlay in the field. The 33-to-1 shot finished third at the U.S. Open and was a tied eighth at the Genesis at the time of this writing.

Hovland’s iron play has been terrific in 2025. Irons will be the key over the Royal Portrush course because links courses are different from PGA courses in the U.S. If Hovland has his irons working, and he’s been consistent lately, watch out. At 33-to-1, Viktor’s almost a must-play for at least a few bucks.
