2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs Odds and Preview

By Jeff Stinger

It’s almost impossible to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions. Free agency, the NHL Draft, and other situations make lifting Lord Stanley’s hardware difficult in two straight seasons. But in 2025, NHL odds suggest the Florida Panthers go back-to-back. Florida is the +650 favorite to repeat as Stanley Cup champs. Four teams led by Florida’s Eastern Conference rival Carolina are at +750. Are the Panthers the team to back to win it all? Check out an NHL Playoffs preview followed by Stanley Cup picks.

Toronto and Washington’s tops are in the East, but the Panthers are the faves

At the time of this writing, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals lead on the Eastern Conference points standings, but the Florida Panthers are the faves to take home Lord Stanley’s goblet.

Oddsmakers and NHL betting fans don’t trust either the Leafs, who haven’t won a Cup since the 1960s, or the Capitals, which appear long in the tooth, so to speak, due to their aging roster. Both squads can get it done, though. So, consider Toronto or Washington if you’re trying to beat Florida at the chalk odds.

Highest Points Team Winnipeg Fourth Western Conference Choice to Win it All

Winnipeg may have won the Presidents’ Trophy, which goes to the NHL team that secures the most points during the regular season, but that doesn’t appear to matter to oddsmakers or NHL handicappers.

Winnipeg is the fourth pick based on odds to take home the Stanley Cup in the Western Conference. Sure, the Jets are only a +200 away from the Avs, Golden Knights, and Stars, but that +200 speaks volumes about the Jets’ actual chances. Be wary about backing Winnipeg because they should be the fave if points during the regular season mean anything, which it doesn’t.

2025 Stanley Cup Picks

Vegas Golden Knights

Vegas won it all in 2023 and bounced last season. The Golden Knights are back with a vengeance in 2025. Vegas secured the top seed in the Pacific and will surely be an ultra-difficult team to beat once the real packing starts.

The Knights are almost the same team as the 2023 version, but they’re playing with much more energy than they did in 2024. Give Vegas the nod to win two of three Stanley Cups.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Canes have been suitable for a while. One of the most solid franchises in the NHL may be on the precipice of a title. Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, and other key Carolina players got some rest this week and will be ready to go on April 19.

If you ignore Carolina, there’s a chance you miss out on a big payday. So go with the Canes to get it done if you think a team knocks off the Panthers in the Eastern Conference.

Washington Capitals

The Caps missed out on the Presidents’ Trophy, but the goals’ leader in NHL history, yes, even ahead of the Great One, Wayne Gretzky, can turn it on in the postseason. Alex Ovechkin remains one of the league’s top players.

His experience and ability to take over a match is legendary. Also, wouldn’t it be dreamlike for Alex and the Caps to score a Stanley Cup in the same season where he breaks Gretzky’s record? That would be something.

LA Kings

The Leafs offer overlay odds, but can we back Toronto, knowing their history of flubbing in the NHL Playoffs? The flubs have happened over decades, not a few seasons. We’re not talking about the Buffalo Bills four years in a row flubs.

We’re talking fifty years of failure to secure a Stanley Cup. Backing multiple-chance flubbing squads leads to losing money, so let’s roll with the Kings instead.

Los Angeles’s Anze Kopitar is awesome. He’s as good as any center in the Western Conference—maybe even in the NHL. Kopitar will be the reason why the Kings get close to sending teams like Vegas and Colorado to the offseason. If you’re looking for a dog with a chance, check out the Kings.
