2025 World Series Top Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers

It’s tough to back a team to win at odds of +240 to win a major sports championship. It’s especially tough to back a team to win a title after accomplishing the back-to-back feat that hasn’t happened in 25 years.

That’s a quarter-century. So, going against the Dodgers makes all sense in the world. Then again, there is no team in MLB as solid as LAD. Also, the non-consecutive World Series streak has to end sometime. The 2025 Los Angeles Dodgers look like the team to end the streak.

The reason? Not only do the Dodgers boast the best batting lineup in baseball, but they also have the most substantial starting rotation. The rotation is so deep that 23-year-old Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki is listed fifth. Blake Snell, a former Cy Young winner, is third. Tyler Glasnow is fourth in the rotation.

Whose second? Shohei Ohtani. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the ace, followed by The Natural. Let’s be honest, though. All five starters in the Dodgers rotation are potential aces this season. So when the playoffs start, Dave Roberts doesn’t have to go to his bullpen. He could have Glasnow pitch a couple of innings, send Snell out there to throw the eighth, and then go right to his closer, 29-year-old Will Smith.

Going back to the lineup, forget it. No squad has as much depth and run potential as L.A. Led by Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman; the lineup includes former Mets player Michael Conforto, Max Muncy, and Ohtani, batting DH.

If any team will break the back-to-back curse, it’s the 2025 Los Angeles Dodgers. The odds are terrible, but if key players stay healthy, always a big if, the Dodgers should roll to a World Series win.

2025 World Series Second Pick: Philadelphia Phillies

The starting three in the rotation, Zach Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Ranger Suarez, are all accomplished, can go deep in games, and, in most cases, will have an edge over their pitching opponent.

That’s a plus for the Phillies, which have a strong enough lineup to challenge the Dodgers if LAD suffers those key injuries. Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto remain the two best at their respective positions. J.T. won’t play daily because he’s a catcher, which could cause issues in the playoffs.

Still, the Phillies are my third choice over the Atlanta Braves due to consistency, a winning culture, and the ability to mix and match the rotation depending on the postseason opponent. Again, like every team in MLB this season, the Dodgers will have to suffer a setback to lose the Series. If that happens, the Phils should be right there to get it done.

2025 World Series Third Pick: Atlanta Braves

Chris Sale is unstoppable. It’s incredible that the man, going into his fifteenth MLB Season, still has that unreal slider that made him famous while wearing a Chicago White Sox uniform and a Boston Red Sox uni.

The slider remains unhittable. So Sale has a shot to score another Cy Young. However, after the Sale, there have been issues with the rotation. Who knows if Spencer Strider has the same stuff this season as he did before the devastating injury last season?

Reynaldo Lopez is a good starter, but he’s not a top-of-the-food chain starter. The Braves will be decent because the lineup is good, but since losing Freeman to the Dodgers, the team hasn’t been as consistent as we’re used to seeing. That’s a problem in a loaded NL East and the same league as LAD.

2025 World Series Underdog Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks

I’m all in on the NL this season. It’s not that I don’t like any AL teams. I don’t like any AL teams to win the Series as much as the NL teams.

The Yankees should have issues in the rotation, much like the Braves. Max Fried is their listed ace, but outside of Fried, who knows what’s going on with the rotation? The Yankees are the only team in the AL to beat the Dodgers, Phillies, or Braves, so the D’Backs are the best underdog squad to get it done.

Tony Lovullo has a solid club. Adding Corbin Burnes to a rotation that includes Zac Gallen means AZ boasts two aces. Brandon Pfaadt is a young arm who could take a big step forward, which means the D’Backs have the potential for three aces in the rotation.

Corbin Carrol is poised for a bounce-back season. Carrol batted .231 in 2024. In Spring Training, Corbin boasts a .375 average, has hit three home runs, and has 8 RBIs. The lineup will rock if the 2022 NL Rookie of the Year gets it together.

Lovullo is a master strategist. So, if the D’Backs make it to the postseason, who knows? Maybe TL manages Arizona to upset the Dodgers. It could happen. This year’s top World Series plays might be putting a few bucks on Arizona to win it all as a backup to a big bet on the Dodgers.
