Why bet on the Los Angeles Angels?
Despite a valiant effort at a comeback Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Angels still ended up losing their third straight game to the neighboring Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-1. They’ve now gone just 2-6 since the firing of Joe Maddon, which was during the 12th game of their miserable 14-game losing streak.
The Halos have scored just a total of two runs across their current three-game losing streak and nearly suffered back-to-back shutout defeats to the best team in the National League. They are a middle-of-the-road team when it comes to offense this season, though, as they rank 15th in total runs scored (272) and 16th overall with a .242 team batting average.
Perhaps having international sensation Shohei Ohtani (4-4, 3.64 ERA) penciled in for a start this Thursday will turn the Halos’ fortunes around. After getting rocked by the Blue Jays and Yankees, Ohtani got his groove back in his most recent start against the Red Sox, pitching seven innings of one-run baseball to go with six strikeouts. The reigning AL MVP also hit a triple and scored the Angels’ lone run in Wednesday’s loss to the Dodgers to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
Why bet on the Seattle Mariners?
In an exact opposite outcome from their 5-0 shutout win over the Minnesota Twins Tuesday, the Seattle Mariners suffered a similar 5-0 fate Wednesday; this time on the losing end of the score sheet. Seattle Started out 5-2 in June, but have regressed with a 3-5 record over the last eight games since.
Although the Mariners’ .321 on-base percentage for the season ranks ninth overall, their .237 team batting average (22nd in the majors) leaves a lot to be desired. Outside of Ty France, who leads his team in batting average (.317 BA), hits (79), home runs (12) and RBIs (41), there’s been little support on offense to break the team’s curse of 21 consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance.
Seattle’s pitching has been mediocre as well, as the team sports a combined 3.98 ERA, which ranks 20th in all of MLB. George Kirby (1-1, 3.65 ERA) looks to remedy his team’s pitching woes as he takes the mound in Thursday’s series opener against the Angels. Kirby looked rather shaky in his latest start, throwing for five innings and allowing six hits and three runs to the Red Sox on June 11.
Angels vs. Mariners MLB Betting Trends
- The Angels are now on an 11-game road losing streak.
- The Halos won three of their last four games played in Seattle.
- The totals have gone under in four of LA’s last six games in general.
- The Mariners are 2-5 in their last seven home games.
- The M’s went 10-9 against the Angels last season.
- The totals have gone over in seven of the last nine meetings between these two teams.
Angels vs. Mariners Betting Prediction
It’s really a toss-up between these two underperforming AL West ballclubs. The Angels might have the much worse momentum of late, but it’s not like the Mariners have been able to string together decent performances, either. Competition has also been real tough for LA of late with dates against the Dodgers and Mets, and playing against someone their own size like Seattle might get the team back on the right course.
