Why bet on the Houston Astros?
The first two games of this thrilling ALDS matchup have been relatively close. However, the Houston Astros made sure that trend wasn’t going to last, as the reigning World Series champs displayed their postseason power with a 9-1 rout of the Twins in Game 4.
Houston hit four home runs en route to an easy victory in Minneapolis and to take a 2-1 series lead in the series. Jose Abreu knocked out two of those four dingers, while top slugger Yordan Alvarez accounted for another as Alvarez now has four home runs over his last three starts. Simply put, the Astros’ top-five offense from the regular season has been alive and well in their title defense.
J.P. France (11-6, 3.83 ERA) will get the start in Game 4 for Houston, with the rookie righty looking to make a stellar postseason debut. There’s some reservation about that possibility, though, as France has been tagged for five or more runs in three of his last six starts of the regular season, including giving up 10 runs on 11 hits to the Red Sox on August 25.
Why bet on the Minnesota Twins?
It was a miserable return to their home field for the Minnesota Twins, who could not get their bats going in Game 4 Tuesday. Minnesota had only three hits against Houston’s Cristian Javier, who was not in great form heading into the postseason.
The Twins did have more men on base with five of their batters being walked and another hit by a pitch, but they couldn’t capitalize on those on-base opportunities all game. On the bright side, former Astro and star shortstop Carlos Correa extended his hitting streak this postseason to all five of his starts. Correa has four RBIs in the playoffs and will need the rest of his team to rally from this series deficit.
Minny will send 27-year-old righty Joe Ryan (11-10, 4.51 ERA) on the mound for a pivotal Game 4 start. Ryan has allowed at least five hits to his opponents in all four of his most recent starts. His last start of the regular season was his worst since the start of August, allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings of work against the Rockies.
Astros vs. Twins Betting Trends
- Houston is 7-1 in the last eight road games.
- The Astros are 4-5 against the Twins this year.
- The run totals went over in each of the first three games of this series.
- Minnesota is 5-2 in the last seven home games.
- The Twins are 4-2 in its last six outings with Ryan as their starting pitcher.
- The run totals went under in three of the last four games played in Target Field.
Astros vs. Twins 2023 MLB ALDS Game 4 Betting Prediction
Both starting pitchers in Game 4 leave a lot to be desired, so it’s up to the Twins and Astros’ respective offenses to send them to victory. Although Joe Ryan hasn’t looked good of late, he’s gotten the proper run support from Minnesota’s offense to make his team’s record look good with him making a start. Call this a narrow win of no more than two runs for the Twins to force a winner-take-all Game 5 back in Minute Maid Park.
